Just noting the discrepancy between the English and German articles. Here I read that Nolan (or Nobles) was born on April 13 in Winnipeg; there he was born in New Brunswick on April Fools' Day. As the Esperanto translator of "Cool Water" I'm mildly curious. FWIW the date of death is not unanimous either, though the variance is only a day and I suppose from Germany's standpoint Newport Beach isn't worth distinguishing from LA. --Haruo 11:41, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted these two edits by 142.177.177.182: [1] and [2]. They were copied from http://www.canadianencyclopedia.ca/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=U1ARTU0004032. I've left them a note, but will probably go back to it myself and cite it. --EarthPerson 08:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the material relating to an author named Bob Nolan which belongs on its own page, which I have also created. Monkeyzpop 02:32, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't find info on Bob Nolan, author. Drshrink44 (talk) 04:28, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I restored the external links, categories and wiki-link to the German wikipedia article on Bob Nolan. It looks like you removed those when taking out the info for the author Bob Nolan. No worries.  :) --EarthPerson 19:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for that. I didn't catch the error. I appreciate it. Monkeyzpop 06:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but this is an awful bio. To wait until the end to mention that this person wrote 'Cool Water' and 'Tumbling Tumbleweeds' is inexcusable. No one cares what his original name was, etc. They are coming to Wikipedia because of these two songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.220.15.66 (talk) 04:21, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Albums?

[edit]

Whatever the original problems were with the lede regarding Cool Water and Tumbling Tumbleweeds, they have clearly been addressed.

I hate to carp, but I believe the terminology is in error at the point at which the SOP are described as recording dozens of albums in the 30s and 40s. What most people understand a record album to be - a 12" 33 1/3rpm vinyl - didn't exist until maybe 1949 and didn't become popular until the mid to late 1950s. In the 30s and 40s a "record album" was a collection of 78rpm vinyls in individual brown sleeves of paper and cellophane encased in an often leatherette exterior cover. I don't think that SOP made dozens of these as they were fairly expensive; I believe they made dozens of 78rpm records that could hold up to maybe five or six songs total and would be called an EP today and not an album.

I'll find some sourcing for that and make the change in the article if necessary.Sensei48 (talk) 18:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
