I think reference 5 is enough to prevent a speedy deletion of the article. Saying that someone is the subject of a parliamentary inquiry is not necessarily enough to pass AfD i n the absence of a good deal else, but is enough of an assertion of notability to pass speedy. I just have to say, this article seems overly sympathetic to Martin for an encyclopedia entry. Someone should change some of the language. I would prefer the original author to change it before I do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.82.150.81 (talk) 19:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

working illegaly

[edit]

the reference cited makes no mention of whether she was working legally or not so I'd say unless we can find a source to back up this claim it be removed. Macutty (talk) 15:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay this is making Wikipedia a joke. This article it written to support the members of the press who lied and fabricated to get publicity for themselves. It certainly is overly subjective and not at all factual. Why is it allowed to be edited to outline a justification for all the lies rather than being objective and reflect the truth? Who continually is editing out any facts that do not support a sympathetic view of a very troubled, alcoholic fraud artist, not in my view, but in the view of the courts who found her guilty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 11:26, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree completely that this article is sympathetic to her. She was living in Mexico and engaging in illegal acts for several years before her detention. It can be argued that she was no longer Canadian and simply used Canada once she was caught doing illegal acts. Funny how she loves Canada now and wants to remain there according to recent interviews. That's the problem with citizenship, thousands of people keep citizenship to Western "modern" and democratic countries while living overseas, only so that they can use that citizenship when the sh*t hits the fan... either way, Brenda Martin shouldn't be protraid as a victim, especially since she's been found guilty of the crime. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.38.30 (talk) 15:07, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why are complete inaccuracies allowed to justify the lies the press told about this story? They commented privately how it was and I quote "Gawd awful journalism", yet they never had the conviction to tell the truth about it all. It is very sympathetic to her and likely penned by a member of that same press to allow them to vindicate themselves and their lies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 11:57, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The National Post Editors had the whole truth on this matter and one reporters sexual interest one of Brenda's supporters, thereby slanting his reporting and the trugh. It was swept under the carpet so Canadians would not be able to note the corruption in the press. While they happily intimidate and expose others, there is a sacred code to protect one another, as this matter proves beyond any doubt. There are reporters at the National Post, whom commented this was the worse reporting he had ever seen and although he wrote an article exposing it, his editors refused to allow it to run for their own reasons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 21:55, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the information about Martin's past legal troubles from the lead section into its own section, since it is not relevant to the rest of the article. In fact, I would suggest that it should probably be deleted altogether, since it has nothing to do with her arrest and conviction in Mexico, which is the focus of the article and why she is notable. Julesd 14:27, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Why are you so interested in hiding the truth, if she was convicted of fraud and she was convicted, why is it not relevant that she had been in fact mixing with criminals her whole life, before she cried to Canada, a country she had left, about her plight. Canadians were played like a violin and you want to hide it, why? What is your motivation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 21:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stop trying to airbrush the truth, won't you? Pathetic attempts. You are obviously a supporter trying to pretend to being objective. You should know the press lied through their teeth on this matter to suck the public in to believing their version of events for political and personal reasons. The only truth is Brenda was convicted twice of fraudulent behaviour. Why not tell the truth? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthinpress (talkcontribs) 11:52, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
