[edit]This is a proposed bridge, providing an escape route in the event of a volcano.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 01:19, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
- More precisely, in the event of a lahar from "one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world...[which] poses a grave threat to the southern sections of the Seattle metropolitan area" (Mount Rainier). Much like the anticipated Cascadia subduction zone earthquake, such an event is essentially inevitable on a 1,000 year timescale and probable on a human-lifetime scale: "At least 60 lahars have flowed off Mount Rainier into its draining river valleys in the past 10,000 years, with the largest events occurring about every 500 years" (Orting) ☆ Bri (talk) 10:05, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
