relationship to cowpox virus and vaccinia virus

[edit]

A "buffalopox virus" doesn't seem to be officially listed as a virus species. As it is closely related to vaccinia virus, is it possible that most, if not all, cases of buffalopox are actually caused by a feral vaccinia virus?

Concerning cowpox, the two viruses seem to be unidentical. But as buffalopox can affect cows, some cases of pox-like disease in buffaloes may conversely be cowpox?

Both cowpox and vaccinia can infect humans and cause localized disease, as buffalopox can. This makes differential diagnosis more difficult. --2003:E7:7735:1987:1C21:CFDE:103C:3AFA (talk) 18:27, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
