ERRATA--- Under the 'College' section, it states that Cael was the first freshman in NCAA tournament history to be named the NCAA Wrestling Team Championship's most outstanding wrestler; I believe that is in error. In 1968, Dwane Keller (Oklahoma State) as a frshman won the NCAA title at 123 lbs. He was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler with Oklahoma State winning the Team championship.

Wasn’t his last college match against Jon Trenge? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.76.93.129 (talk) 03:42, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up

[edit]

This page needs a ton of work. Sections and citations would be a good start. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.5.246 (talk) 19:43, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Record

[edit]

I wish I could find a citation for it, but it's been said that no other athlete in an individual sport has ever gone undefeated throughout their NCAA division I career. I didn't want to put it in without confirmation, but if someone wants to find it that would be great. Maybe the NCAA's record books would have it but I couln't find anything covering individual records. The records summaries only covered team wins. - Taxman Talk 17:13, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MMA/UFC?

[edit]

Has there been any talk of Cael Sanderson ever joining MMA?? The UFC??

Yes Cael has addressed this question several times, and the answer is no. He has no interest in ever competing in MMA, he is a true wrestler and wants to be involved in pure wrestling not simply using a small percentage of wrestling to win a fight. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.164.76.228 (talk) 16:04, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Undefeated College Career

[edit]

I am removing the following line:

"Contrary to popular belief, Cael was not undefeated throughout college. He redshirted the 1997–98 season, losing only one match to Iowa's Paul Jenn in the finals of the University of Northern Iowa Open in November 1997 by a score of 6-4. He then wrestled Jenn again twice the next year beating him 19-4 and 10-2 and one more time the following year winning 22-7 when Jenn was disqualified"

First of all, that loss is not a part of his official college record. If a wrestler is redshirting, their matches don't count. But, if they are wrestling a college wrestler not redshirting, (when they are redshirting) then the match counts for that opposing wrestler. Cael Sanderson never lost an official college match. If you want to mention that loss, feel free after providing a reliable source. The additional times he wrestled Jenn are not notable events. Dkspartan1 (talk) 14:12, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
