Samuel Campbell and some issues
[edit]I note in the military/politics and other sections several lines saying "several people named such-and-so Campbell", it and it has me wondering if all of those are in those sections....to put it another way, I'm uncertain whether the section headings here are useful at all and maybe the list should be purely alphabetical. That being said, I've just found out by accident there are other Samuel Campbells than Samuel Campbell, currently an article on an American politician, and Samuel Campbell (doctor), a Royal Navy doctor and indirectly the namesake of Campbell River, British Columbia. I found this out by searching for the former, to add a hatnote, and mis-spelling it and winding up at a Wikipedia search page for "Samuel Campbell], which has more entries than I'd care to make a dabpage for at this point in the day; and I'd venture the American politician should be bumped to Samuel Campbell (American politician) and that title should become a dab page......Skookum1 (talk) 16:15, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- I agree in regards to Samuel Campbell, and have opened a discussion about this at Talk:Samuel Campbell. Rejectwater (talk) 11:04, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Pronunciation?

Campbell
[edit]Some clown keeps reverting my edit. Graeme Campbell started a political party which is far right and xenophobic.49.178.80.22 (talk) 12:09, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

I posted an edit to include Glen Campbell. It keeps getting deleted. He was an important and notable American Country singer. "Glen Campbell American singer and guitarist. Glen Campbell was a prolific and award-winning singer-songwriter. He released 64 albums in a career that spanned five decades, selling over 45 million records worldwide, including twelve gold albums, four platinum albums, and one double-platinum album." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.171.45.221 (talk) 17:15, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that Glen Campbell is an American singer of note. But when you look at the article, there is already an entry Glen Campbell (disambiguation) where he is mentioned. A double entry is superfluous. The Banner talk 17:39, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- It may be technically superfluous, but I suggest that primary subjects which by design appear in disambiguation lists should also be mentioned in this name list – especially on this page where disambiguation lists are not alphabetically in the main name list but lumped in a special section. Listing primary subjects here will, by definition, save many readers the visit to another page. (I also notice that Glenn Ross Campbell is listed in both pages, whereas Glenn Campbell (broadcaster) and Glenn Campbell (American football) are not.) Aside, but related: Maybe it's too late to change this now, and this is certainly not the right venue, but IMO name lists would work much better if sub-lists (… (disambiguation) ) would be transcluded instead of linked. Our colleagues at de:Campbell (Familienname) do that quite successfully where 65 sub-lists are transcluded – this is an immense improvement for readers. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 00:20, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. It seems "The Banner" deleted Glenn Ross Campbell and stuck him under the "Glen(n)" listing. The level of petty editing makes wikipedia a less than reputable source of information. I understand there needs to be a level of formatting and style that conforms to a standard, but an arbitrary application of that standard is suspect. 104.171.45.221 (talk) 17:27, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
