Executive Director for Canada's branch of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws?

[edit]

According to their website, Caryma is no longer the Executive Director for Canada's branch of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

NPOV

[edit]

There is nothing here about the controversy around her attempt in 2021 to hold an event featuring Chris Sky. See Google search for articles. https://www.google.com/search?q=caryma+sa%27d+sky&prmd=vin&sxsrf=ALiCzsbVKhShd8IVnGFzopeaVfCdPAxP7Q:1669435395261&source=lnms&tbm=nws&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiH09a9-8r7AhVUlIkEHRgIAMAQ_AUoA3oECAEQAw&biw=360&bih=612&dpr=3 208.98.222.78 (talk) 04:04, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Noting the controversy, do you have any high quality sources that you think we could use as a reference? CT55555(talk) 05:39, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Omissions aside (and that's a very important omission), I think it's pretty damningly NPOV when we have to keep revising what she actually does because of how inflated her resume is. It's not even clear to me that this is noteworthy. 69.157.3.57 (talk) 02:52, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cartoonist?

[edit]

She's not a cartoonist. According to the definition in cartoonist, "A cartoonist is a visual artist who specializes in both drawing and writing cartoons (individual images) or comics (sequential images)."

Sa'd does not actually do any of the artwork, she hires an illustrator to do it. She says: “I provide the concepts, the text, the captions, and oversee the little details and minutiae that are included in there,” Sa’d says over the phone.

“If I were to do it myself, A) they wouldn’t be as good, and B) I’d probably still be on comic no. 3.”

Call her a comics writer if you like but not a cartoonist. 199.119.232.214 (talk) 05:36, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think I agree, but you can't just make edits without citations, please stop doing that. CT55555(talk) 05:41, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited it to say she commissioned cartoon. Which is to say that I agree, she is not a cartoonist. CT55555(talk) 05:44, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CT55555, a single source in the Toronto Star, while I would say is enough to support an "activism" section in the article, I don't believe is enough to meet the threshold of the Manual of Style's point that The lead sentence should describe the person as they are commonly described in reliable sources. I would argue that this subject is most commonly described (including by other Star articles) as a lawyer who does the occasional activism and citizen journalism. There was a recent WP:RfC on Chris Benoit regarding this and the consensus was that he's a "wrestler who killed his family" not a "murderer who wrestled" - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (work / talk) 17:38, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added a single source because I did not anticipate this being debated. Other sources:
  1. https://www.insauga.com/watch-hamilton-police-handcuff-activist-caryma-sad-at-doug-ford-campaign-stop/
  2. https://www.tvo.org/article/ontario-election-today-on-the-campaign-trail-may-31
That said, in preparing this answer, I get the impression she is usually described as a "lawyer and citizen journalist" though, so maybe we should lead with that, and mention activism later and less prominently? CT55555(talk) 20:00, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Journalist"

[edit]

The claims that she is a journalist are unsourced. If there are no reliable sources that refer to her as an "independent journalist" or "citizen journalist" then it would be more neutral to refer to her as an "internet personality" instead. 208.98.222.13 (talk) 22:30, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Police have stated they are looking for a woman who assaulted the same counter-protester in front of the police station, another incident caught on video by lawyer and citizen journalist Caryma Sa’d" CT55555(talk) 22:37, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Confusing"

[edit]

Why does Caryma dress like drag queen if she is against them in all that galla? Is it cause she is mocking them? She claims that she is not far-right wing and not far-left wing. I scratch my head on this one. The first time I saw her on YouTube I thought she was a supporter for LGBTQ. She is a criminal lawyer and is getting into trouble nowadays. I just someone to clarify with me please.Kingzwest (talk) 3:23, 5 October 2023 (UTC)(talk)

She is anti-trans

[edit]

She is also known for siding with anti-trans people at protests she uses the her camera as an excuse to film people and post out of conetext manipulated media 2607:9880:4210:1BA:EAA6:2ED8:93CD:EB25 (talk) 02:28, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, one look at her Twitter over the last few months is all one needs to see. Unfortunately, we need to back this up with reliable sources, and per our policies on people talking about themselves on Twitter and on original research, unless or until she overtly comes out and says that she is anti-trans or independent, secondary sources start to pick up on it, it is inappropriate to insert anything about this on Wikipedia. ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  03:14, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is her producing GoFundMe with drawn art depicting causes such as "protect trans youth" in a negative light substantial enough to warrant the label?

Comedian?

[edit]

I've removed the comedian-related categories. Operating a temporary venue that hosted live comedy shows doesn't make you a professional comedian any more than owning a bar that hosts musical performeances makes you a musician. I can't find any evidence that she ever worked professionally as a stand up comic or any other type of comedian. Wellington Bay (talk) 23:38, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
