"Chain shot was used by the defenders of Magdeburg in May 1631 as an anti-personnel load, which according to counselor Otto von Guericke was one reason for the extreme violence of the victorious attackers, another being that the inhabitants were Protestants, the attacking soldiers Catholics." Apart from being vaguely phrased, this could be interpreted as an either anti-Catholic or Protestant remark. I suggest a more concise, clear rewrite. 209.91.141.58 (talk) 19:38, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National troops

[edit]

What are these, in relation to Gettysburg ..?

Date

[edit]

"Chain shot is reported to have been invented around 1665.[2]

Chain shot was used by the defenders of Magdeburg in May 1631 as an anti-personnel load..."

Why are there two different dates? If it was used in 1631 that would mean it was made before then, so why is the first date still listed? Onehotdog93 (talk) 08:08, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Magdeburg fact was added later. I have removed the alleged invention date because the source used is not primary and does not go into detail about how it arrived at that date. — BRIAN0918 • 2008-04-24 12:50Z

Melee weapon

[edit]

"They could also be picked up and used as mêlée weapons on deck." I removed the above line - unreferenced, weasel word (anything "could" be used), and makes no sense. Mefanch (talk) 19:40, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Borgias

[edit]

The chained cannonballs were featured prominently in the TV series Borgias in the events which took place long before 1600s - the earliest mentioned in this article?--184.161.155.26 (talk) 00:25, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
