"West Horsham"
[edit]Can anyone cite a reference for that original name, all by references suggest that the station was opened as 'Christs Hospital' (due to the school, of the same name, being built near-by), there were hopes that housing development would take place that would have become known as West Horsham but this never took place. - see the excellent sub brit page Pickle 00:14, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm "The station was originally named Christ's Hospital West Horsham but the West Horsham was later dropped.", that;'s as clear as mud then - cheers! (SouthernElectric 00:20, 3 October 2007 (UTC))
It was known as "Christ's Hospital West Horsham" in the 1950s and early 60s -- at least that was the name printed on all the tickets. Escoville (talk) 16:43, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
"boarders only"
[edit]I can find no reference in the Christ's Hospital literature to any idea that the school might have been opened to non-boarders when it moved to the country. I find it hard to believe the LBSCR thought this. Escoville (talk) 16:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've found two references for this particular point. Firstly, in Mitchell and Smith's "Branch Lines to Horsham" (1982), below image no. 45. Secondly, p. 180 of the April 1999 issue of "Backtrack". Both seem to suggest that the school may have given hints or indications to the LBSCR that it was considering such a possibility. Support for this theory may be found in the fact that the school's governors contributed to the not inconsiderable costs of building the station. Ravenseft (talk) 19:44, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
