Talk:Closeness (mathematics)

I created the page some time ago. Not being a native english speaker I have choosen the term closeness for lack of a better term. If nearness relation is the more correct term feel free to move the article.MathMartin 28 June 2005 19:18 (UTC)

Closeness relation between a point and a set

I doubt that this closeness property holds:

if $p$ is close to $A\cup B$ then either $p$ is close to $A$ or $p$ is close to $B$.

Choosing any $p\in A\cap B$ (for any intersecting sets $A$, $B$) makes $p$ close to both sets. Shouldn't the statement thus use the inclusive or? - Benzh (talk) 11:02, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Restructure this article

The "Generalized definition" section is at least partially redundant; the section "Closeness relation between a point and a set" already discusses "p is close to A iff $p\in {\overline {A}}$."

The paragraph with uniform spaces and entourages probably also could be merged together with the material currently under "Closeness relation between two sets".

Thus, it looks like this article could use some restructuring. Thoughts? Thatsme314 (talk) 20:44, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
