getting started
[edit]Good, there's an entry on this type of laptops.
May need a few defining qualities, like common configurations for the desktops, or the color of the keyboard and screen sizes of the laptop.
For example: some pure HP-label laptops use a black / metal motif on the keyboard. In contrast, I've noticed a Presario laptop (the V4435, and yes, it has the Compaq label like the article says) with a brushed metal look resembling the titanium mac laptops, with a black lid that I'm not sure is common to the other Presarios.
For more specifics, we can say that the product line still exists, since I saw some in stores just last month --pointing to the hp website will help.
Last, we may need to make the introduction just a bit more book-ish, especially the last sentence. I was thinking of how to combine the info in all 3 sentences, but will have to come back later. This is my first talk page --kinda bossy at the moment, but the rule is "there are no rules when improving" or something like that. Thanks for the help!
Desktops
[edit]Did Compaq have desktop PC's in the early 90's ?
- Yes, many, such as ProLinea 4/33s. 69.87.203.215 22:44, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Lines in the Presario Family
[edit]Please add entries for any models in the Presario line. Please note, however, that specific models should not be listed- rather the model line to which they belong, e.g. for the 1245, please include any specific details under the 1200 range and link to the 1200 line from the Presario page. If it were to include every possible model released under the Presario badge, the page would be heavily clutterred. I have created an entry for the 1200 series but as such it is the only one which has an active link within this page. Also, please sign your comments - thanks. c-bro 19:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)c-bro
Models
[edit]Thanks for updating the model numbers on the Presario page. It would be appreciated, however, if those adding entries for Presario models would consider creating a page for that model, as there are far too many dead links. We've only got 2 active links - please make articles, if even stubs. I would, but I have little experience with those PCs which you have all added. Thanks again c-bro 15:34, 29 September 2006 (UTC)c-bro
This is a valuable article, because HP resources are so poor! But we need someone to get things going by creating empty stub pages for each series. I would gladly add model-specific info if the pages already existed, and I think many other potential contributors are the same -- many of us will not get a page started, for various reasons, but will be glad to add to it. 69.87.203.215 22:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, OK I'll start stub pages and add what little details I have myself. Then it would be appreciated if you would, as promised, add to the stub pages that I create. I'm keen that this is a quick procedure because the administrators have a habit of deleting articles which contain little information or are not updated. I'll start that this evening. c-bro 13:04, 23 November 2006 (UTC)c-bro
I've been thinking about this, and I am thinking of heading in a slightly different direction... At this point, I see nothing wrong with trying to list all Presario models here. Yes, it could get out of hand, if we get hundreds of them... But we should be so lucky! Let's worry about that problem when we actually do get too much and MUST sub-divide. Until then, I think this is the most convenient way to get people to contribute. I even think we can afford/encourage one line of summary info per model. I'll try to get that started, with a standardized format. Yes, a table might be better, but I think that makes it much harder for people to add info, so let us avoid big tables for now. I still think it is good/fine to have separate pages for the different series. We can copy the sections from here to there, and then flesh out more details there. After we get a lot of data on individual models, we'll be able to intelligently digest/summarize the info in the earlier parts of this article... I hope the admins understand that if they don't allow fairly empty stubs to hang around, at least for a few months, people won't have places to make contributions to! (Although I have a silly drive to want to help wiki organize all knowledge, right now I stumbled on this just because of a current interest in the V5303NR, and I am primarily working to improve this infrastructure so that I can contribute that little piece, and at the same time make it easy for others to do the same.) 69.87.203.221 15:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, I got things started with headings and specifics for three models. One advantage of not using tables is you can pack the most info into the least space. The disadvantage is that it takes judgement and understanding, is not so standardized, and will not be so readable by those not familiar with the terms, without a lot of footnotes to explain the abbreviations... It is a lot of work to decide what to leave out, to get it down to one line of info. And one-line does not have a strict definition, since depending on your browswer and font size, things vary. Anyway, if someone else starts a page for V5000 series, I'll try to put more details there. 69.87.204.242 17:54, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I added the C303NR, but I didn't know where to put it, because I don't understand which series it is part of.69.87.204.242 18:38, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Pretty sure that there is a model S5100NX, as I have one myself. Add to the list? MaxyDawg (talk) 13:52, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Model Equivalences
[edit]Can someone explain how to analyze these two different type of model numbers, for exampe: V5303NR = EZ572UA ? Sorry to dump all that data into the article, but it seems valuable; please don't delete it unless you find a better place to move it to! 69.87.204.242 23:11, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I'm not too sure how to translate the two types of model numbers, or indeed the reasoning behind having two! I don't think there's a method of calculation though, and it would be almost impossible to tabulate data of model number equivalencies. Based on my experiences with the Presario 1200 series, the models belong to the CM2000 series, which also includes other Presario and Armada notebooks within that family. Batteries clearly state that they are compatible with the CM2000 Series, rather than identify which models (1245, 1246 etc.).c-bro 11:55, 27 May 2007 (UTC)c-bro
Compaq vs. HP
[edit]There seem to be some HP notebooks with model numbers quite similar to Presario models. To what extent are they the same -- or what are the differences? What parts are generally interchangeable -- they seem to share the same battery these days. 69.87.204.242 23:11, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, not too sure on the similarites and/or differences but I would assume that HP would simply rebrand notebooks with the Presario badge, so in that respect I would imagine the main internals to be identical. They would probably change easily upgradeable components to keep the systems current (such as RAM, HDDs) but I would expect the motherboards and case layouts to be pretty much the same. Hope this helps... c-bro 11:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)c-bro
History/Dates
[edit]Compare this article to Dell Inspiron and Dell Latitude. None of these pages do a great job of covering the whole history yet. The Presario article is weak on dates so far. Don't know if it is better to try to integrate such with the model list, or do as a separate timeline-list focus section. 69.87.204.242
Suffix letters
[edit]What do the suffix codes NR, US, and WM stand for? What other letters appear? 69.87.204.242 18:40, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I think this is getting very clutterred!
[edit]I'm not too pleased with the direction this page is taking. I think that putting specifications of some models on the Presario main page is pretty unprofessional. If you want to add specifications (which I hope you do) please make a relevant article, include the spec and link it throught the Presario page. Try and keep this as professional as possible, Thanks,c-bro 16:52, 28 November 2006 (UTC)c-bro
I'm sorry, but many of us that are willing and able to contribute details are in no position to start article pages. We can't add details unless there is a place to put them. Right now this is the only place to put them! I can't move the V5000 data to the proper place, because there is no V5000 page. We need someone to start stubs for the whole outline structure, so we can all help to fill in the details. I may be done working actively on the V5303NR soon and unable to help thereafter... 69.87.202.147 22:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, if you're implying that I am not willing to contribute then you are very much mistaken, having created/heavily edited 3 Presario PC pages. I don't understand what's so difficult about creating an article anyhow: surely if you've time to add to an already created article then you've time to create one- only takes about 30 seconds! I'll do my best to start templates but I don't see why I should create tens of articles with no information, on the off-chance that somebody bothers to add details to them. Especially considering that the administrators quite rightly regularly delete articles with little/no relevant information therein. If I have to delete this information from the Presario page then I will - it is not good Wikipedia practice to clutter article/category pages with specifications just because the authors don't want to make the step of creating articles, and I don't see why we should waste time and effort creating article pages for PCs which we know nothing about! It's just common sense- if there's no article and you have no desire to create one then don't add the information: it's quite simple! c-bro 23:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)c-bro
Notice of reversion
[edit]I wish to revert this article to a previous version, thus eliminating the unnecessary, excessive and unprofessional additions from users. Namely, these additions have added information on specific models to the Presario page, with no relevance to the actual article and have led to a very clutterred article. Instead, users should create an article for each Presario model they have information on, and link to this from the Presario page. The current situation is completely unacceptable; however I am open to suggestions or arguments for either side. c-bro 22:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)c-bro
Models
[edit]I'd say that this page is in danger of lapsing into the previous situation where there's just a huge list of models on the main Presario page. I'm keen to avoid that. A fix would be to categorise the models under the various families which they belong. I.e. instead of putting an article for the 1244, 1245 and 1246, make an article page for the 1200 series or 1240 series and then list specifics of each model on that page... Check out the 1200 page to see how I've attempted this. Use it as a template also if you all wish... c-bro 16:44, 2 April 2007 (UTC)c-bro
Meaning
[edit]Do someone know the ethimology and the meaning of the word "presario"? Apparently, it is not English.
Thanks

I am guessing it is a variation on "Impresario". I don't have any means of backing this up yet.
