I just want to say that my bot GOZERBOT is still under development and living. Version 0.9.1 went into debian, 0.9.2 is under testing and a seperate version has been made to run on Google Application Engine to bridge IRC and Wave. Thing is that i dont seem to be able to find how to disable the purple background. If anyone can give me a pointer to this, much appreciated.

Regarding version information

[edit]

Would it not be of higher public interest to know when the latest version was released, instead of the version number? The version number alone does not say much if the latest release was 10 years go, IMO. Ueland (talk) 18:42, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to agree, either switch to release dates or include both information --Dominik Honnef (talk) 23:28, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed it so that it includes both the date and the version (with date first, so we can sort by it). --Embolalia (talk) 15:08, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BSD license

[edit]

I assume the "BSD" links in the article should go to BSD licenses instead of Berkley Software Distribution. - Zergling_man 58.96.88.83 (talk) 06:20, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. Fixed.--Embolalia (talk) 15:11, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bot Frameworks?

[edit]

Should bot frameworks also be listed to this list, like node-irc for Node.js? --Havvy [No Account] 97.120.42.137 (talk) 02:58, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be a good idea. Perhaps bot frameworks should be separated out from bots themselves in a different section. --Embolalia (talk) 15:09, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup of "Notable features" column

[edit]

I'm hesitant to update this myself, given my conflict of interest as the lead dev of Willie, but the notable features column isn't very useful. Many of the features I'd look for on this page aren't easily comparible (character encodings, SSL, etc.), many would make more sense under a "Notes" column (e.g. "Beta", "Designed to be extensible for a work IRC network", etc.), and some don't belong here at all ("A Semi-Advanced Java Bot with a ton of feactures and still more coming... join #AwesomeBot on espernet for more info.." is an ad, not a feature). I think perhaps something like the Features section of the client comparison page would work better.

needs moar botbest

[edit]

No mention of bircbot, a "bash irc" bot or other notable bots. Limnoria is a fork of supybot Limnoria it seems incredulous no one knows that since its arguably the most well known and most advanced IRC bot to date.

What about scripts that run on top of irssi and xchat such as Uberscript

Edits by Embolia/Elad the so called "author" of Sopel which is plagiarized code that can hardly be called a bot. It's more along the lines of a semi sentient bug that constantly throws errors, is poorly documented, has a "help" channel on freenode in which persons who ask for help are belittled or ignored for sometimes weeks. PLEASE REMOVE

Clearly the authors here are the victims of the bots not the owners, maintainers, or authors.

  • If you show up on Efnet without a botnet you will be scoffed at and removed from your own #channels
  • BOATNET
  • he.net botnest remove coming
  • Time to clear out
  • !UD the Urban Dictionary definition of 'Gas Station Sushi'
  • Got EEEEmm
  • ascii goatse
  • d0m3r loves the gape
  • ne lrh?
  • R.I.P #2600, you were an hero

for we must nevar forget....

A bot’s job is to ensure you have no lulz at all by wearing the remaining human user-base down with constant abuse.

Please consider adding PBot

[edit]

https://github.com/pragma-/pbot very advanced generic bot with tons of features and plugins, written in basic and readable Perl. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.142.235.66 (talk) 00:17, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edit: not actually a framework; but it could be used as one, certainly. PBot is a fully-featured rich bot with extensibility and customization. Please check out its README and documentation at the github page. Pragmatic Chaos (talk) 02:31, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
