Merge

[edit]

Sorry to do this, but I think this topic has notability issues. If this is complete, it's not looking good for the secondary sources. The appearances make 75% (!!) of the article and appear to be all primary sources, and this would be possibly okay (though undue weight) as long as there was more to say in other sections. There isn't any dedicated coverage on the character. I'm recommending a merge to the list of Sonic characters (and the rest to another wiki willing to house more in-depth content on lesser known fictional characters). I know a lot of time was poured into this and I want to support more articles of this genre, but I'm not sure why that time would be spent working on articles with borderline notability that are very likely to be merged and redirected instead of the stuff guaranteed to stay (topics with significant coverage). czar  03:36, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the fact that I'm working on all of the Sonic character articles and you happen to have notability complaints regarding a few of them is the reason I'm working on Sonic characters whose notability you dispute. Besides, what constitutes "significant coverage" regarding video game characters is far from agreed upon; for example, as I've repeatedly stated, very few game characters would get to stay (not more than 3-4 Sonic characters, at the most) if WP:VG followed the rule you seem to have of full-length articles.
Nonetheless, I'd be surprised if the "stupid name" list ranking didn't count, as there's a (very short) page just on her there. IIRC, list rankings like this are as much in the way of your "dedicated coverage" as characters like Wario have. Tezero (talk) 04:01, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So let's take the opportunity to get to the bottom of this. I've opened up a dialogue at Talk:List of Sonic the Hedgehog video game characters#Notability. I don't have a horse in the race (or an opinion on the worthiness of listicles) and am happy to leave this alone if no one cares, but I thought I'd broach it just in case someone else does. czar  04:23, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was gonna review Green Hill Zone a few days ago but I got beaten to it. People might know the drill, I focus on copy editing issues. I'll read through this article now. Thanks! Jaguar 15:44, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • "a Chao creature named Cheese" - why is this in bold if Cheese isn't the focus of the article?
That someone is me. :) Shane Cyrus (talk) 04:41, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Other than this the lead complies per WP:LEAD

Design and characteristics

[edit]
  • "Cream loves the Chao creatures, a staple in the series, and is a friend to them all" - syntax can be improved, does Cream loves the Chao creatures (a staple in the series) and is a friend to them all. And another thing, what series? Were the Chao creatures only in Sonic Adventure? Sorry for my lack of knowledge as I've only played the 90s Sonics (and Sonic Heroes...)
  • Reworded and sourced. It's the Sonic series overall, by the way; they first appeared in Adventure and have played various roles in most of the games after that, kinda like Toads from the Mario games. Tezero (talk) 20:06, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Appearances

[edit]
  • "to defeat Eggman, who is planning to build an empire. A similar goal followed with Sonic Advance 3 in 2003." - what does this mean? Was the plot/narrative of Sonic Advance 3 similar to Sonic Advance 2?
  • "In Sonic Rush, protagonist Blaze the Cat" - was there more than one playable protagonist in Sonic Rush?

Reception

[edit]

Everything checks out here, the section is balanced as it features both negative and positive opinions from critics.

On hold

[edit]

This is a well-written article. I've checked the references and they seem reliable, in place and working. Other than those few minor concerns I have found this article meets the GA criteria in most places. It is stable, the prose is good and is focused. I'll put this on hold for the standard seven days, but this shouldn't take even a day! Jaguar 16:09, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Close - promoted

[edit]

Sorry for coming back to this late as I've had hell at college. The article meets the GA criteria, the prose is in good standing, the references are all acceptable and every minor concern has been dealt with. Thanks for doing them so quickly. It's yet another Sonic GA! Jaguar 16:32, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
