Nearby Nebulae

[edit]

In order to avoid getting into an edit war with User:Elphion, I have decided to make a section explaining why the nebulae in Ophiuchus is more appropriate for the section instead of leaving it at what it is. The section is titled "Nearby Nebulae", which means that it should be a list of nearby nebulae. My list was just that, a list of nebulae inside of the same constellation. Nebulae inside of the dark horse are not nearby nebulae, they are just nebulae inside of the dark horse. Wyrm127 (talk) 17:59, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There's no point listing "nearby" nebulae -- there are hundreds, and they're not relevant to this article. "Constituent nebulae" might be more appropriate, though we have not exhausted the list of those either. -- Elphion (talk) 23:46, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"There's no point listing "nearby" nebulae -- there are hundreds,"

Look at Wikipedia's page Sharpless catalog. There are 313 and thirteen objects, yet it only lists 34 of them. That's what I did here, made a short list of well known nearby nebulae. It doesn't have to include every single nebula nearby.

"there are hundreds, and they're not relevant to this article. "Constituent nebulae" might be more appropriate, though we have not exhausted the list of those either."

Then make a talk section suggesting the removal of the section. Wyrm127 (talk) 19:00, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Sharpless catalog does not exhaust the category of nebulae; you previously included some that are not listed there. See, e.g., the NGC catalog. The point is simply that the right place to talk about well-known but unrelated nebulae in Ophiuchus is the article "Ophiuchus", not here. -- Elphion (talk) 11:52, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"The Sharpless catalog does not exhaust the category of nebulae; you previously included some that are not listed there."

I don't think you understand my point. Not all the objects in the sharpless catalog are listed on that page, because that would have hundred of objects. Same logic applies here.

"The point is simply that the right place to talk about well-known but unrelated nebulae in Ophiuchus is the article "Ophiuchus", not here."

Then, again, make a talk section suggesting removing the section. Wyrm127 (talk) 21:43, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is that talk page section. -- Elphion (talk) 21:49, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think making a section titled "Removal of Nearby Nebula" might be more effective at trying to show your message instead of just having a discussion with me under this section. Wyrm127 (talk) 21:57, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
