German?
[edit]Is anyone aware if the writers wanted this to be a German title? If so, it might be worth noting that the correct gender of Bus is actually the masculine der* (thus, der Bus).
- it's probably just a reference to Das Boot. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 06:12, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I think it's quite obvious that the creators of the Simpsons are capable of finding out the correct way of representing the term "The Bus" in German. I think it's a testament to their ingenuity that they continuously play with words, such that they are constantly putting out new, ever-more-witty material. As I've noted in the cultural ref., the creators do this sort of thing quite often. It should be obvious that they are doing this to make it easier for the lay-person to understand something that might otherwise make no sense. As per the example with "Il Mayore", as opposed to "Sandico". What I'm saying, is that there'd be a lot of people who would be scratching their heads after hearing the phrase "Il sandico capiche el englise" The way they actually did it; having the old woman say "Il Mayore capiche el englise" is not correct Italian, however, a far far far far far greater percentages of audiences will understand the intent of the exchange.
short and simple, people who watch the simpsons are stupid and would have no idea of a foreign language link. they would probably think it was a new catch word and start using it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 211.31.2.126 (talk) 11:07, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
This article [CGHM] should definetely be merged with the article of the episode CGHM is mentioned in, Das Bus. --Impaciente 08:22, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed - I'll put merger signs in the articles. U-Mos 15:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
"Comparison with LOTF" section
[edit]I have removed this section as it has been lifted directly from the Das Bus page on SNPP. It's a good idea to note down the comparisons on this page but it should be re-written by an editor rather than just copied and pasted. Theme 09:44, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]- The countries the kids represent in the Model U.N. are as follows:
- Since this episode, the voice of Bart in the Latin America version was provided by Claudia Mota instead of Marina Huerta, who had filled the role since the first season. Huerta returned as Bart's voice from season 16 onwards.
Putting here for someone to eventually incorporate. Alientraveller 23:44, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Questions
[edit]- "The movie True Lies was the inspiration for the bus crashing against the bridge."
- The entire film or just one scene?
- "When the Chinese actors came, they felt Cantonese would be more appropriate for the fisherman instead of Mandarin, so it was changed."
- "They" being the actors or the production staff or both or what?
- "According to Mike Scully, this scene was regrettably deleted due to the episode being too long."
- Did Scully regret it or is this POV?

- I don't know if I should be posting this question here. My question is: Who is the numb-nuts who is randomly, and without giving reason for doing so, deleting contributions to the Cultural References section? I can understand it when people delete quotes that are not actually cultural references. I even do this oftentimes. But what I'm complaining about is the deletion of genuine cultural references! Why the *&^%$ would someone go out of their way to delete relevant, accurate, properly written, properly referenced material, which can only serve to enhance the viewing pleasure of fans??? You are potentially robbing people of knowledge that could very well make parts of the simpsons far more enjoyable, by deleting things that ought not be deleted. Anyway, I've reposted much of what you've deleted, and I will CONTINUE to repost these things. Each time I watch an ep., I check the relevant section on wiki. If you've deleted it again, I'll re-post it again... Can only hope that you get bored of robbing people of knowledge sometime before I give up on helping those same people.
Pre-GA nomination review
[edit]- Disclosure
I am a participant in WP:DOH/TOPIC. Cirt (talk) 01:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC).
This is how the article, as of January 2, 2008, compares against the six good article criteria:
- 1. Well written?: Pretty good. Plot could use some copyediting, words like "Meanwhile" are not needed, and the sentence Due to lack of evidence, Bart, acting as judge, forces himself to acquit Milhouse. seems to have an overuse of commas.
- 2. Factually accurate?: Well cited, properly formatted to (7) sources using WP:CIT, are we sure no other could sources good be found to add to the article further?
- 3. Broad in coverage?: Covers the key topics, but again I wonder if we could find a good third source for the Reception section.
- 4. Neutral point of view?: Article is written in a neutral manner.
- 5. Article stability? Article appears stable going back at least two months in edit history. No evidence of conflict on talk page.
- 6. Images?: (1) image, detailed fair use rationale provided on image page.
These are only my own comments as to how this article measures up against the GA Critiera. It is not a GA review, that will have to be done by someone else, as I am a participant at WP:DOH/TOPIC. Cirt (talk) 01:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC).
Good article nomination
[edit]Okay, I previously had a minor concern about the article which was so small, it did not even warrant a mere putting the article on hold. However, as this issue has now been addressed, I'm passing this as a good article. Congratulations to the main contributors, and keep up the good work :) Qst 13:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Lord of the Flies
[edit]Should it be mentioned that part of this episode is based on Lord of the Flies? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.10.94.212 (talk) 20:14, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- The first line in the cultural references section says that! Ctjf83Talk 22:49, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
"Accurate Contonese"
[edit]The Chinese/Cantonese did not make sense at all. Reference? It's my mother tongue. Deathkami (talk) 17:12, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
- What about it doesn't make sense? I got the info from the DVD commentary. CTJF83 chat 18:39, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Bill Gates did not voice himself in this episode
[edit]According to the Simpsons Wiki[1], Hank Azaria provided the voice of Bill Gates. It's pretty obvious to anyone who is familiar with Azaria's voice acting (or has heard Gates' actual speaking voice). The citation in the article links to no actual evidence, just the Wikipedia page for Simpsons episode guides. I don't have access to the guides to confirm what is (or isn't) contained within them, but I can say with certainty that he did not make a guest appearance. His name is also not listed in the credits--unlike, for example, James Earl Jones, who did appear in this.
I edited the article to remove this mistake.
