From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Davidson Institute is a national organization that has received a great deal of acclaim and attention through it's programs over the last few year. The school that this organization runs, The Davidson Academy of Nevada, has been featured on the COVER of Time Magazine, a news piece on ABC Nightline, and USA Today (Source: http://www.davidsonacademy.unr.edu/Articles.aspx?ArticleID=212&NavID=9_1). Also, the Davidson Fellows scholarship program has been in the news in major publications all across the country on a yearly basis (http://www.davidsongifted.org/fellows/Article/Davidson_Fellows___Press_Room_360.aspx).

The last time I attempted to write this article, I wasn't sure of the correct way to do so and made it sound just like an ad. I understand the importance of providing a neutral entry and am open to making any changes recommended.

Thank you for your consideration.

As reviewing administrator, I think that possibly they might be notable, so I am going to remove the speedy tag. I consider that Time article to be PR, and they should be ashamed of themselves. (I see no evidence that it was a cover story , though--what issue was it the cover story in?) The articles in Google News betray their origins by using the same wording. The one in USA Today [1] carries the author's honest disclaimer "(sponsored by the Davidson Institute for Talent Development, an organization based in Reno I consult for)" The ones in G Scholar are mostly authored or sponsored by the Institute. & ditto in G Books. Wikipedia has it's own standards. If anyone wants, they can send this to AfD, and we'll see what other people think. DGG ( talk ) 02:15, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for removing the speedy tag and for your further consideration. The Time cover story is from the August 27, 2007 issue (http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,27-08-2007,00.html). When I mentioned USA Today, I was actually referring to this more-recent article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/education/2009-08-04-genius-davidson_N.htm.
Also, NBC's Today Show referenced and quoted the Davidson Institute in a recent news piece: http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/04/22/1903068.aspx.
Other Davidson Institute articles: http://www.davidsongifted.org//press/Article/Current_Press_Clippings_409.aspx
I will make a few updates today to try to improve this entry. I will keep my eyes on this page for any suggestions or questions. Thank you again! Mdlugosz (talk) 19:54, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear phrasing

[edit]

The article currently reads Attendees are given the opportunity to earn six transferable college credits and be a U.S. citizen or Permanent U.S. resident living in the United States. To attend, students must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent U.S. resident living in the United States. This isn't very clear.Autarch (talk) 21:30, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it should say, "and must be a U.S. citizen . . . " which happens to be the correct fact about the organization. The organization website is at Davidson Institute for Talent Development and I think the page for the program you are asking about is this one: THINK Summer Institute. Feel free to edit accordingly and to Google for news sources about the programs. I don't edit this page, but only watch it, because I know many people in the program and don't want to get into any conflict-of-interest editing situations. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 23:21, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! It was a typo and has been fixed. Mdlugosz (talk) 01:20, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may find it helpful while reading or editing articles to look at a bibliography of Intelligence Citations, posted for the use of all Wikipedians who have occasion to edit articles on human intelligence and related issues. I happen to have circulating access to a huge academic research library at a university with an active research program in these issues (and to another library that is one of the ten largest public library systems in the United States) and have been researching these issues since 1989. You are welcome to use these citations for your own research. You can help other Wikipedians by suggesting new sources through comments on that page. It will be extremely helpful for articles on human intelligence to edit them according to the Wikipedia standards for reliable sources for medicine-related articles, as it is important to get these issues as well verified as possible. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk) 23:22, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
