Birth year

[edit]

It looks like there is some discrepancy on the birth year for Dick Jauron. ESPN.com lists his birth year as 1947 [1]. Pro-football-reference [2] and this site [3] list his birth year as 1950. Personally, I think 1950 is more likely, as 1950 put him as being drafted in the NFL Draft at age 22, rather than age 25. Anyone know an authoritative reference on this? This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot (talk) 18:45, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Template

[edit]

I changed the infobox from Template:Infobox NFLretired to Template:Infobox_NFL_PlayerCoach. If there are any disagreements regarding that decision, please let me know. I can be persuaded that Mike Singletary should remain NFLretired because his most notable achievements are as a player. Most NFL coaches who have played in the league are notable for their coaching careers, however, and I think their pages should reflect that notability. J. Based upon how this Bills' season is progressing, vandalism to this page is all but inevitable. I'll be watching to to prevent as much as possible. Monsieurdl mon talk-mon contribs 23:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Article Intro

[edit]

Just curious as to why Jauron's 13-3 season is mentioned in the intro. Seems misleading, since that season, in the context of the man's career, is a complete aberration and not at all representative of his time as an NFL coach. Jauron has exactly one winning season (that 13-3 year) and eight losing seasons, and is currently working on the ninth. If you think the 13-3 season is notable enough to include in the intro, perhaps it might be more accurate and helpful to place that information in its proper context. I would replace the last sentence in the intro with something like: "As an NFL head coach, Dick Jauron has compiled a 58-80 lifetime record, comprising eight losing seasons, as well as one 13-3 season with the Chicago Bears, for which he was named AP Caach of the Year in 2001." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.232.21.242 (talk) 04:57, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are correct- his one season has been an aberration, and as a majority of his career has been a losing one. I added a more appropriate inroductory sentence. Monsieurdl mon talk-mon contribs 14:26, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You need to include reasons why he was fired by the Bears. One and primarily is not playing Rookies over washed up Vets. He would not start Brian Urlacher and it took an injury to Barry Minter to get Jauron to start Urlacher at middle linebaker. Also Jauron who hire QB coached to be his Offensive co-ordinators and they were horrible. John Shoop comes to mind. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.179.233.34 (talk) 20:34, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
