Probable copyright violation
[edit]The article is almost a copy of the one appearing in the website used as reference. http://www.dlnexus.com/news/history.aspx Since the information that appears in Wikipedia must be licensed under the GFDL, that site must be licensing their contents under the same license, otherwise it is a copyright violation (even if the site decides to allow the inclusion of that information in this section, he must acknowledge in that page that the contents is given under the GFDL so that any editor can verify that fact).
Since all the versions including the first one are a copy of the website, this page may qualify to be deleted immediately by any administrator per the 8th criteria for speedy deletion. Please completely reword this article using the website as reference only, not as draft, or make the owner of the site to add a notification in the website stating that the information found in that page is released under the GFDL or that the information is of public domain, or that he gives up all rights to that text. Hopefully any of these solutions can be met by next weekend. Thank you. -- ReyBrujo 22:10, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Not copyright violation
[edit]I understand where you are coming from on first assumption to this. But I infact work for the site and am a friend with Trampas. I gained permission from him to use this article for the Wiki site to give the back history of it. I will contact Trampas about what you are saying about the release of info. Also, Mattamillion who made the last edits before me is also a site owner.Kranar drogin 23:17, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I do know you work there, the Lexicon is a good source of information and since I use the site's RSS feed, I have seen you uploading articles there. I will continue the discussion in the next paragraph, to prevent having to answer two threads at the same time. -- ReyBrujo 00:25, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Used With Permission
[edit]My name is Trampas Whiteman. I'm the site owner of the Dragonlance Nexus. Kranar Drogin built the Nexus wiki page using the history article with permission. --Dragonhelm 23:32, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Trampas. First of all, this is nothing personal. Now, the problem is that, when anyone submits text through the Save page button, he is accepting the terms of service that are expressed just below the edit box, which reads: Content must not violate any copyright and must be verifiable. You agree to license your contributions under the GFDL. If the text has been taken from another site, with another license, the submitter is very likely violating copyright. I quote the relevant guideline:
- Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia: If you submitted work to Wikipedia which you had previously published (especially online), and your submission was marked as a potential infringement of copyright, stating that you are the copyright holder of the work on the article's talk page helps, but will not likely prevent deletion. It is sufficient to:
- Make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication.
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation.
- Why is there a problem? Because the original copyright is the one considered legal, and any variation is considered violation. In other words, Kranar has permission to put the information, and probably to update it. However, any other Wikipedia user won't have such permission, and will be violating your copyright by modifying the article. To prevent this, there are two easy solutions: permitting reuse under the GFDL (putting a note in the page in Nexus), or to fully rewrite the article so that it is original. The latest one, sending a mail to the foundation, is the less known option, and I have no idea the steps after sending the mail. Sorry for the inconveniences, but as I said, the article is qualifying for speedy deletion, so I am trying to fix the copyright issue before it is being nominated by another Wikipedia user. -- ReyBrujo 00:25, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Revised coming up
[edit]I understand where you are coming from there ReyBrujo. So I talked with Trampas and a total revision of the article is called for as you have suggested. It would just be easier in the long run of things. Kranar drogin 04:29, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for understanding. -- ReyBrujo 06:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- We are going to have to work on getting this more up to date, and state how the site is involved with authors, game designers, etc. I just was putting it off until the vote was done.--Kranar drogin 22:12, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Per the new changes
[edit]Per the lead change by Kranar, it's fairly obvious the site is notable. When your work is transmitted into a published book, that's definetly notable. Be removing tag now, if you still contest it talk it out. DoomsDay349 23:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Revision?
[edit]So there was a revision mentioned quite a while ago. I realize, KD, that you and Trampas are busy with many many things, but I'd love to get this revision done. If you guys can just throw me a basic outline of what's wrong, give me any info possible and statistics, and anything else needed, I can handle it. DoomsDay349 23:08, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Infobox cleanup
[edit]I don't know all that much for the infobox, if someone more well versed (Kranar, maybe?) could clean it up or give me the correct info 'twoud be much appreciated. DoomsDay349 23:27, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:DL Nexus.jpg
[edit]Image:DL Nexus.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
