The FT demonstrator had steam generators and did demonstrator trips with passenger trains. There are photographs documenting this. The steam generators were removed from the FT demonstrator before sale to the Southern Railway. Some railroads had steam generators installed in FTs during WW2 as they were used on troop trains. Santa Fe FT 167LABC was built in February 1945, had steam generators in the B units and had 95 mile an hour gearing. There is a very lengthy discussion of steam generator equipped FTs on Trains.com a couple of years ago. --SSW9389 09:58, 20 September 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by SSW9389 (talk • contribs)
Consider this article written by Wally Abbey to the Santa Fe Listserve some years ago as excellent information on the origin of the term "F" and "FT". See http://utahrails.net/drgw/emc-ft.php Mr. Abbey worked for EMD in public relations and later the Soo Line Railroad. He also worked for Trains Magazine. --SSW9389 23:55, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Sections added separately, so either can be changed by itself. Model development(bad title) was meant to be an intro to Models, but got sort of long. I don't know how to cite these web sites, so I went to general indexes which had names and credits.Sammy D III (talk) 02:04, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
