Army team referred to itself as "Black Knights"?

[edit]

I don't think this statement is accurate: "During Blaik's tenure the Army team adopted the nickname the "Black Knights"." I see that the reference is listed in the external links where it makes a similar claim about the 1945 team, but I don't see anything to indicate that site as a reliable source. From what I have read, in the 1930s and 40s, the media referred to the Army football teams as the "Black Knights of the Hudson". To my knowledge, West Point didn't adopt the name itself until 1999 or 2000. I don't know if "Army Cadets" was ever an official nickname for the team, but it was by far the most prevalent one for most of the 20th century. Strikehold (talk) 03:22, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
