[edit]"As Marquess van Heusden, the Earls of Clancarty are the only Marquesses in the Peerage of the Netherlands and the highest ranking Dutch nobles." Is this correct see List_of_Dutch_noble_familiesAlci12 19:28, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit]The Earls of Clancarty are definitely not the highest ranking Dutch nobles. The princes de Bourbon de Parme are higher. Furthermore, in practice, the titles of Marquess of Heusden has but marginal value since there are but few who have ever heard of it.
- Princes are usually not classed as nobles but sit in a catagory above on their own - unless they have also have a dutch dukedom. Whether people have heard of someone has nothing whatsoever to do with their ranking in a peerage. Alci12 11:44, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Heir
[edit]The title lists no heir, and this is the case on Cracroft's Peerage and I suspect in most/all reference books. However, work has been done that suggests there is an heir in Australia descended from a younger son of the 1st Earl. See: Google Peerage discussion. If this is the case then the Earldom and two of its subsidiary titles have heirs. The titles bestowed on the 2nd Earl would become extinct. New Progressive (talk) 14:27, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- If it is not mentioned in any reliable source, then the argument does not carry any weight on Wikipedia. I will go ahead and remove the disputed tag if no reliable sources are provided. ネイ (talk) 08:29, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
