Reads like a news article.

[edit]

Most of this article reads as though it was plagiarized from a news article. Several parts should be rewritten.

Relative dates/timeline

[edit]

Several dates mentioned throughout the article are relative to todays date. It should be replaced with exact dates.

Example: Two years ago, a widespread corruption probe toppled the cartel's top government protectors, including Mexico's former drug czar.

Name inconsistency?

[edit]

The article alternatingly refers to him as "Valdez" and "Villarreal". Shouldn't we pick one and stick with it? (Why would you refer to him by his middle name at all?) SomeAvailableName (talk) 07:31, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know. Naming in Mexico is confusing to Americans, however there is no inconsistency. The law in Mexico is to name each individual with two last names: The last name of the father (the main last name) followed by that of the mother. A middle name is optional. Edgar's first name is "Edgar", while his last names are "Valdez Villarreal". He has no middle name. In society he would be simply be called Mr. Valdez. This issue in USA is often addressed by using a hyphen to link both last names, so in Edgar's case would be: Edgar Valdez-Villarreal.
Yes, I will review the article so that it has naming consistency. Thank you. Cheers, --BatteryIncluded (talk) 16:44, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Allegedly

[edit]

I personally think the word is used to often but this takes the cake: Valdez's first arrest came at 19 in Texas, where he was allegedly charged with criminally negligent homicide for allegedly running over a middle school counselor with his truck while speeding down a Laredo street. He was allegedly charged? Seriously? 99.149.171.115 (talk) 23:37, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Video

[edit]

This is about a video his group sent to The Dallas Morning News.
