Jumping the shark
[edit]It is my personal opinion that this is the episode in which the simpsons jumped the shark. When you have a well known character like apu have 8 children, you have officially run out of ideas. It's almost frightening that a show could go 7 seasons past the point that it jumped the shark, but the simpsons somehow managed it.-The preceding unsigned comment was added by 6hawkt29

Foreshadowing
[edit]In the scene where Apu and Manjula and the simpsons were talking about children apu says,"I have noticed that this country is dangerously underpopulated" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.33.149.202 (talk) 04:21, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Cultural references
[edit]- Eight Misbehavin'(the episode's title) is a parody for Fats Waller's song "Ain't Misbehaving".
- SHØP (which was first seen in the season four episode "Lisa the Beauty Queen") is a parody of real-life American-based furniture chain STØR, as well as Ikea, of which STØR was considered to be derivative. Despite the Swedishness of SHØP, the letter Ø isn't part of the Swedish alphabet. It exists only in the Danish, Norwegian and the Faroese alphabets. The correct Swedish equivalent is Ö.
- The music heard during Octopia includes Guns N' Roses's "Welcome to the Jungle", Richard Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyries" and John Mellencamp's "R.O.C.K. in the USA"
- Homer performs his zoo act to "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins.
- Apu cries "Oh! Calcutta!" during an intimate moment with his wife.
- The scenario of exhibiting the babies in a theme park echoes that of the Dionne Quintuplets, who were exhibited to the public in "Quintland" during the 1930s in Ontario.
