I've removed the personal information previously on this talk page as per WP:PRIVACY. Getting information by phone is not a valid source anyway. – Tivedshambo (talk) 09:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

High Street stores

[edit]

Do we really need a list of every store in the High Street? Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. ANyway, there are other shopping streets in Erdington than just the High Street. – Tivedshambo (talk) 09:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take no response to mean no objections, so I've removed the list in line with WP:NOT#INDISCRIMINATE. – Tivedshambo (talk) 21:38, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

highcroft

[edit]

this is a substantial development in Erdington, being previously a poor law hopsital. should really look to giving it a subsection —Preceding unsigned comment added by UKbandit (talkcontribs) 13:49, 8 June 2007

Whilst I agree that it is a large development (by suburban standards), I don't think it is of sufficient size for it to warrant its own subsection. A paragraph on the development could do. If there is more information and sources on the history of the hospice itself, then maybe it could be developed into a separate article. - Erebus555 15:23, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
theres this andthis. apparently the main building, now apartments, was the "new Union Workhouse was erected 1866-69 from designs by Yeoville Thomason, architect famous for designing Birmingham Council House, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and The Jaffray Hospital. UKbandit 15:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The information there can be turned into an article in itself. It is quite a bit. There are bound to be a lot more sources available out there too. - Erebus555 16:45, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
when i say subsection, i mean having it in the equals to be a header in the overall erdington wiki entry. i agree it does not warrant a daughter article (if thats what you mean)UKbandit 16:17, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know understood you meant. I feel that sebsections about buildings are not worth it and should be moved to their own articles. It gives them room to expand if another source is found. - Erebus555 16:43, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

gravelly hill

[edit]

i was told be a local resident (my neighbour) that it used to qurried for gravel, theres plenty, i know i live there! anyoneknow any sources? —Preceding unsigned comment added by UKbandit (talkcontribs) 13:49, 8 June 2007

I have a lengthy book on the history of Erdington, and nowhere does it mention that it was quarried for gravel. It says no industry was performed on the hill until Erdington expanded. This means something may have happened after Erdington expanded as Gravelly Hill was originally just a gravelly hill with a vast network of rabbit warrens. I'll look into it anyhow. - Erebus555 15:23, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ok ta. theres some hotsory on the bham city council website too, including the murder of mary ashcroft, notably the last time someone was tried twice for the same thign and last trail by combat.UKbandit 15:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are better sources out there - mainly books and leaflets. I'll dig around some archive newspapers as well. - Erebus555 16:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to suggest that some sort of gravel quarrying may have taken place. The gravel pit now housing. This also seems to suggest some sort of quarrying for gravel in the area. The site is also now housing and is located very close to the slip road leading to the Aston Expressway. Those are the only references to gravel pits that I could find in relation to the area. It might be worth noting, but we could do with some other reference to show that quarrying definitely took place in the area. - Erebus555 (talk) 15:11, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gravel pits info...'Gravel was extracted here commercially. The 1889 Ordnance Survey map shows a gravel pits at the junction of Slade Road and Hillaries Road, at the top end of Powick Road and on the north side of Salford Reservoir.' http://billdargue.jimdo.com/placenames-gazetteer-a-to-y/places-g/gravelly-hill/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.5.255.67 (talk) 10:54, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gareth Crompton

[edit]

I have removed the phrase, "local campaigner" that appears before Gareth Crompton's name. It has no relevance to the article. It was a self awarded title that the local Conservative Party is keen to use for its activists who intend to stand for election.Valiant Son 04:45, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

demography.

[edit]

"Erdington is a relatively little ethnically diversity for a suburb of a major English city" is incredibly bad grammer, and Erdington is MUCH more diverse than the article suggests ... local ethnicitys include Somalian, polish, ukranian, chinese, pakistani, indian, bengali, westindian, african, romanian, curdish to name just the nationalitys of people i personaly know. intake in most of the junior schools is now becoming predominatly asian muslim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.5.251.131 (talk) 14:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you have reliable sources for the various elasticities, feel free to add to the article. (As for the "grammer", please leave that to someone else to fix...) - SummerPhD (talk) 15:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed grammar. Unfortunately, the page linked as a source for this information is a dead link, and I can't find a replacement so I can't vouch for the accuracy of the statement.  An optimist on the run! 15:37, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have lived here for 18 years, I personaly know people of these nationalitys thank you! find the up to date figures urself as I cant be bothered now seeing as you have criticized me on the 2 different unrelated articles I commented on, are you a troll!! im a, was a, newbie, just learning, and that does not make my knowledge any less relevant just because I don't know how to present it correctly, I would have preferred your assistance on how to do things than rank attitude summerphd! you just lost a would be contributer due to bitching! after all being in the usa you know more than a resident of erdington its self whose family have been there for generations!! and im sure that you have made your mind up that I don't know anything worth adding to wikki in general!!

Lyndhurst estate

[edit]

Under Lyndhurst estate, the following doesn't make sense: "On the Sutton Road, numbers 44-108 were demolished in 1957 for the construction of the Lyndhurst Estate. Number 44 was retained as it was an old building considered to be of interest." Was 44 demolished or not? --Roly (talk) 13:21, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Erdington a "town" ???!

[edit]

I sincerely doubt it! I would like to see some reliable documentation other than promotional literature written by a commercial organisation. --Roly (talk) 09:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - I can find no evidence that it was anything but a village before it was swallowed up by the Birmingham conurbation. I'll revert. Voice of Clam 20:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Marsh Hill school names

[edit]

There seems to be some confusion re the names of the two Marsh Hill schools. ISTR (I was there in the mid 60's) they were named "Marsh Hill Boys Technical School" and "Marsh Hill Grammar Technical School for Girls", but my memory is far from perfect. I'm prepared to be corrected if someone has documentation that says otherwise. Why the difference I don't know. I can only assume it was a difference in perception of the importance of technical subjects between the genders - a form of sex discrimination I suppose. --Roly (talk) 22:40, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
