In the Biography section the writer correctly notes that Reyer composed an ode in 1850 based on words of Gautier, but then says it "was conducted by Sélam" at the Théatre Italien. I'm not sure about the location, but there was no conductor named "Sélam." That is the French spelling for Arabic "salaam" as we spell it in English, or "greeting," and it is the TITLE of the ode, "Le Sélam, Symphonie orientale en cinq tableaux" ("The Greeting, Oriental symphony in five pictures"). Somehow the writer has misunderstood the title of the work to be the name of a fictional conductor! (I am very familiar with the musical scene in France at this period, and I will pay $1,000 to anyone who can find a conductor named "Sélam.") I would have edited this, but don't know how to footnote the source, which in this case is the notes to the only recording of this work on the CD "Les brises d'orient 2" ("Breezes from the Orient Vol. 2"), although there are other sources I could look up as well. The recording is on the German label Capriccio, cat. no. 10 380 (the space is correct, that's how they number: two digits, space, three digits). Billcito (talk) 15:22, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
