Little Ethan's Adoptive Family[edit]

Alistair's death has not impacted his adoption of Little Ethan in any way, shape, or form. Alistair is still Little Ethan's adoptive father, and Ethan is only Little Ethan's biological father. Julian, Sheridan, Beth, and Chad are still Little Ethan's adoptive half-siblings, as is Jane (who is only biologically his full sister). All other relatives through Alistair remain Little Ethan's adoptive relatives, and those through Ethan are, at the time, his biological relatives. This applies at all other pages whose characters have been affected by Little Ethan's adoption - Little Ethan is, for example, Fancy's adoptive half-uncle (via Alistair) and biological half-nephew (via Ethan). — Charity 02:57, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very well. But it gets cluttered once you start doing it that way.
For example Fancy and Fox who currently believe little Ethan is their half-brother are in actuality his biolgogical half-aunt and half-uncle but through adoption they are his half-niece and half-nephew.
To lump things together like (Fancy Crane biological half aunt/adoptive half niece is confusing). Considering little Ethan is related to several of the same characters through his biological father, his adoptive father, and Julian the man currently believed to be his father I think it makes more sense to show where he fits into all of his families seperately than give numerous relatives two or three cluttered notations on how he is their relative. ksofen666

Things aren't lumped together like that. Things are grouped by type of relationship - parent, sibling, [great-]grandparent, uncle/aunt, cousin, nephew/niece, and other. Fancy, for example, is under uncle/aunt and nephew/niece. Alleged family is unnecessary in the first place, as there's absolutely no relation between Little Ethan and his alleged family, and giving Little Ethan separate sections for adoptive, biological, and alleged family makes things much more confusing and makes the article unnecessarily lengthy. Also, with this mindset, we'd need to create separate family lists for all characters with stepfamilies and families-in-law, which, IMO, is ridiculously superfluous. His relation to Julian's family is important. The world sees him as Julian's son and his place in that family should be reflected. Also I think it is important to show just how confusing and convoluted the situation is with his place in these 3 families. He is related to several people in several different ways.

As for step-families and in-laws I totally agree with you that would be superfluous but I think that is sort of apples and oranges in regards to this topic. Little Ethan is considered to be Julian's son by most of harmony. They don't really think of him as Alistair or Ethan's son. They see him as Julian's son. Julian may not be a part of his life but everyone still sees him as Julian's son. That is important.

As for being lengthy maybe it is my inexperience with wikipedia but why does that matter if the subject matter is relevant?
