Common names
[edit]In a website seeming to refer to his book Native Eucalypts of South Australia, Dean Nicolle lists the common name "pointed mallee" for two subspecies of E. socialis but this common name does not appear in the same book illustrated on the webpage. In the book, the names given are "red mallee" and "summer red mallee" for subsp. socialis, "green-leaved red mallee" for subsp. viridans, "red mallee" and "inland red mallee" for subspecies eucentrica and "red mallee" for subsp. victoriensis. Euclid and Plantnet (NSW) give the common name "red mallee" and VicFlora "grey mallee". I suggest using only "red mallee" and "grey mallee" here for E. socialis.
