Birth year?

[edit]

There seems to be competing sources for the year of Felix Darley's birth - 1821 or 1822. His grave marks 1821, though various sources I've found say 1822. Any suggestions on how to settle this? --Midnightdreary (talk) 17:33, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this. The Findagrave page reflects his grave marker, as I noted above, so it could just be repeating a typo. The Wiki is not a reliable source, nor is that homemade page that looks circa 1996. Google Book search produces borh 1822 references and 1821. I don't see this problem solved yet. --Midnightdreary (talk) 14:03, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You might start with assuming 1822 is the typo and make his tombstone leading evidence instead of clinging to 1822 without evidence.--Dirk P Broer (talk) 13:28, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry you feel that I'm "clinging to 1822 without evidence" (especially as it seems that I'm the one who initiated the discussion). I've seen enough incorrect dates on tombstones to know that the assumption they are "leading evidence" is not a good one. Here's my lack of evidence, however: Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, Book 4, Book 5, and this biography of Darley, and his page at the Smithsonian. I don't see this problem solved yet. --Midnightdreary (talk) 14:03, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
