[edit]Fred Ellis was my uncle-- he was married to my Dad's sister. While i do not think I ever met him, I do remember family discussions about him, and I do have one of his oil paintings (given to me by my grandmother).
Supposedly, Fred was a socialist/communist during the depression years and supported the common man and unions against exploitation by big business and government, alike. One of the family legends is that Fred wrote the depression song "One Meatball". There is no way to verify this, however.
