Star British Empire?
[edit]How is the galactic empire in star wars based on the British Empire? 138.251.249.145 13:23, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
I would like to know the same thing. I mean other than the fact that the Emperor, Capt/Adm Piat and a few others have British accents (but some have American accents too). The general *theme* of the Rebellion has some connotations to the American Revolution, but that does not mean that the Empire itself resembles or is based on the British Empire. Anyway, it seems more like the Roman Empire to me... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.159.48.146 (talk • contribs) 05:10, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- I concur. It's not British... it seems to have been inspired by Asimov's Empire, which by his own admission, was modelled on the Roman. Should someone remove the line? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.63.0.36 (talk • contribs) 08:10, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Clear line
[edit]Should we list here only Empires known as Galactic Empires, anything that has the structure of Empire or anything that even vaguely resembles an Empire (like the Solarian League of Honorverse)?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 15:37, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'd say that we should list anything that controlls an entire galaxy since, at least to me, the term galacticis sort of the keyword, not empire. That would drastically reduce the number of listnings, though. The Imperium of Man for example is nowhere near in control of the entire milkyway, nor is the Klingon Empire , the Romulan Empire, and so forth. Atzel 19:03, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
British?
[edit]It ought to be pretty clear that the Galactic Empire in 'Star Wars' is in no way based on the British Empire. If anything, Palpatine's conversion of the Glactic Republic into an Empire seems more like the career of Augustus than anything that happened in British history. I am, therefore, taking out the reference to the British Empire.

The Galactic Empire game for MajorBBS
[edit]I came on here looking for an article on the old text-based multiuser game Galactic Empire that used to be a fixture of MajorBBS dial-up multi-user BBSs, and that I used to play all the time back in the 80s and 90s. (I came looking for it because I'd intended to point someone on IRC to such an article here.) I was surprised to find there was no such article... though there are pages related to other computer games named Galactic Empire.
Anyway, there is a project to bring back the MajorBBS game Galactic Empire as an open-source thing. Just now found it via Google, here:
http://www.themajorbbs.com/murdock.html
It should provide enough info for someone to start at least a stub on the game...

benign?
[edit]What is a "relatively benign empire"? I think the political implications and connotations of these empires, the (changing) view of the authors, readers, the political circumstances need a more thorough analysis. --Alex1011 10:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Avoiding Original Research
[edit]I've removed unsourced comparisons of the empires in Dune and Star Wars to historical events. Without a source this is all nothing but original research. Also, when you use the word "clearly" it should alert you that you are probably doing original research. Ekwos (talk) 22:59, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Stormtroopers originate during World War I, not with the Nazis.
[edit]Stormtroopers were the elite shock troops of Imperial German Army during World War I. The SA, or Sturm Abteilung, means Storm Division and were merely trying reference the World War I Stormtroopers in an effort to appropriate the lineage (though in some cases some had been Stormtroopers from World War I). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.254.18.190 (talk) 23:59, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
