"Winter's coming"

This article says Fry's exclamation "Winter's coming!" is an intended reference to Game of Thrones. I think this might be taking Fry's comment out of context, are we sure this isn't just a coincidence? Does anyone have a proper source from Futurama cast/crew claiming it as so? Deus Ex Machina
