Name

no-one who lives in or near goffs oak puts the apostrophe in the name. to have the redirect away from the correct version (goffs oak) to this incorrect one (goff's oak) is a misrepresentation. if there are no objections i will return this page to its original location.

I sometimes do. Then again, half and half. I have no objection. Simply south 14:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Goffs Oak has no apostrophe at all more importantly the info about the goffs oak tree is totally incorrect - the giant oak was either blown down or removed due to age much earlie - i dont have the date to hand but early 20th century and the tree which was planted (from one of its acorns i believe) was planted in the 1960's or thereabouts, with much ceremony. thanks - goffs oak resident 172.203.154.218 10:35, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apostrophe

[edit]

"Can be spelled with or without the apostrophe"? Come on, there's either a right way or wrong way of spelling it. - Dudesleeper Talk 01:15, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ordnance Survey, surely the people who know these things, have used "Goff's Oak" from 1882 to the present day. See Goff's Oak on Bing Maps (OS View). Alansplodge (talk) 21:04, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No the OS are not the arbitrators of correctness on this they just reprint maps until someone tells them otherwise. If you check Broxbourne BC here or Goffs Oak Community Association here or Goffs Oak School here or the library website here there is no apostophe. In fact I am yet to find any organisation which uses the Goff's Oak spelling. If you look for Goff's Oak on Wikipedia there is a redirect to this article anyway.
