Merge

[edit]

I suspect that Gyrid and Gyrid Olafsdottir are the same person. However, the article Edith of Wessex (permlink) says that Edith was "great-granddaughter to both Olof (II) Björnsson and his sister Gyrid by Harold I of Denmark" — i.e., that Olaf had a sister named Gyrid, possibly in addition to his daughter named Gyrid. However, that could also be a mistake in the Edith of Wessex article. Experts? --Quuxplusone (talk) 05:38, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the Edith article is problematic, but so are all of the relevant articles. They show Olaf having Syrbjorn and Gyrid, while Gyrid is given a daughter Tyra married to Styrbjorn, her uncle. Because none of this is referenced, who knows where it came from, but someone has let their genealogical enthusiasm get the better of their prudence.
As to the merge, these are intended to be the same woman and the pages should be merged, but that assumes that this semi-legendary woman merits a page at all. Agricolae (talk) 17:28, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
