Hadestown (cast recording) → ? – There has been discussion of splitting, renaming, or merging this article at Talk:Hadestown. Should we:
- Merge with Hadestown
- Move to Hadestown cast recordings
- Split into two articles: Hadestown: The Myth. The Musical. and Hadestown (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
My preference would be to either 1. merge or 2. move, with no strong preference for one or the other. I don't see the need to split an already stubby article in two. Pinging everyone involved in last discussions: BD2412, Roman Spinner, Steel1943, Colin M, Gagaluv1, Hyperbolick, Shrinkydinks, Mark E, SanAnMan, Sparksbeth. - Support option 3. There is sufficient content within Hadestown (cast recording) for it to be split into two articles, one delineating Hadestown: The Myth. The Musical. (live original cast recording) and the other delineating Hadestown (original Broadway cast recording). Since both of those are albums, the incompletely disambiguated Hadestown (album) can be moved to Hadestown (Anaïs Mitchell album). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 03:27, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support option 3. The above argument by Roman Spinner is well-reasoned and I agree with its conclusions. —Shrinkydinks (talk) 00:27, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support option 2. I think renaming the current article to "Hadestown (recordings)" or "Hadestown (albums)" would be better than having two separate articles for the two different recordings. I can't find examples of musicals with multiple recordings and having two different articles for these. Mark E (talk) 11:57, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- A glance at Category:Cast recordings will reveal that WP:Other stuff exists: Anything Goes (1989 cast album) and Anything Goes (1989 London Cast Recording), Blood Brothers (1995 album) and Blood Brothers: The 1995 London Cast Recording, Hair (Original Broadway Cast Recording), Hair (Original London Cast Recording) and Hair (Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording), Jesus Christ Superstar (1996 London Cast), Jesus Christ Superstar (Original Australian Cast Recording) and Jesus Christ Superstar (1972 Swedish cast), The King and I (1953 London cast album), The King and I (1992 studio cast album) and The King and I (original cast recording), Show Boat (1988 cast album) and Show Boat (1959 cast album), We Will Rock You (The Original London Cast Recording) and We Will Rock You: Australasian Edition. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 18:10, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- Just a note that I'm not sure if it makes sense to use parentheses here. If this remains one article about two albums, it would not be an article about a singular thing called "Hadestown". The Beatles discography, not The Beatles (discography). Versions of Blade Runner, not Blade Runner (versions). Editions of Dungeons and Dragons not Dungeons and Dragons (editions). WanderingWanda (talk) 19:32, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support option 2. For the reasons above. While it has happened in the past that musicals get separate articles for different cast recordings, it is much more common for them to be compiled in one article and I think the same should apply here.Gagaluv1 (talk) 15:37, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support option 2. These albums are sufficiently closely related that it's reasonable to cover them in the same article (which could later come to encompass any other notable Hadestown cast recordings). If there was a lot to say about each album, there could be an argument for separate articles per WP:SIZESPLIT, but I don't think the article is at that point yet. Colin M (talk) 00:19, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Support option 2. I made this Wikipedia account pretty much only to advocate making the articles less redundant than they are. Having the information about the cast recordings as their own article, separate from the musical, makes sense, but having them as two separate articles is needless -- I don't think they're large enough to merit that.
