Obie Philpot

[edit]

Many sources, including his obituary, state that Obie Philpot wrote "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" while serving in World War II. Other sources mentioning Philpot include this, this, this, etc. And yet, the song appears to be attested from at least as far back as 1927. So what, if any, was Philpot's involvement? Is the spiritual from 1927 a different song to the one that emerged after World War II? If Philpot wrote it, or at least rearranged it, why is he not credited as a writer on any records? Does anyone have any ideas? Until this is clarified, I agree that Philpot's name should not appear in the article - the sources do not appear very reliable.
