Notability
The Heinen's stub is not intended to advertise the store whatsoever. It is merely providing information on a local community-based grocery store. Perhaps it could be placed within a larger group of articles that discusses community-based grocery stores and their importance in modern suburban areas. Notability need not be a concept of national concern. Grocery stores small and large contribute to the growth of cities alike. They equally bring about the ideas of economy, consumerism, and small business.
Heinen's is comparable to many other grocery stores such as Giant Eagle, and it can furthermore be identified as a competing force against these stores. It should not be considered non-notable simply because it is a local chain in its infancy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluebul1989 (talk • contribs)
- According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Heinen's chain is 75 years old. I don't think that you can fairly say that this store is still "in its infancy". Yet after 75 years, it's still a strictly local chain. The concept of grocery stores as a class is an encyclopedic topic. The appropriateness of this particular store for an encyclopedia article is, however, much less clear. I can find no evidence that this chain meets any of the recommended criteria at WP:CORP. The review discussion mentioned below ended as a "no consensus" decision. That gives the community a grace period to improve the article and to demonstrate that this can be turned into a fully encyclopedic topic. If no significant improvements are made after a reasonable period of time, it may become appropriate to renominate this article for deletion. Rossami (talk) 21:11, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Just thought I'd point out that unless something changes before then, as of the summer of 2012, Heinen's will also have a store in the suburban Chicago, Illinois area. No longer strictly a local company. Does that help the discussion any? NorthCoastReader (talk) 01:09, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing did change and the store is now open. I have modified the article to reflect the change. NorthCoastReader (talk) 01:25, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
I was wondering how I could enable a search for simply "heinens" or other variations to redirect to the Heinen's page because at this point no other variations can be found. Help would be much appreciated. Bluebul1989 23:44, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind. I answered my own question. Bluebul1989 04:45, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
AfD/DRV Result Notice
This article was the subject of an AfD discussion originally closed on 8 June 2006. A DRV consensus on 13 June 2006 declared the proper AfD result was No Consensus/default keep. Xoloz 16:41, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Suggested changes in light of second AfD discussion
- I suggest that we re-write the ==Unique services offered== section to read less like an advertisement. Here is what I propose:
=Unique services offered==
Heinen's stores offer catering services and wine tasting. The store also has its own brand, "Two Brothers".
Since this may be too short, it could be integrated into the first paragraph. It also could include citations from a newspaper or magazine review on the store.

- I agree. I will find some verifiable information since my knowledge of the store is via personal research, but Heinen's is very different from Giant Eagle and the like. Heinen's emphasizes old-fashioned services such as curbside pickup for groceries (i.e., a clerk will load your vehicle for you). Heinen's has also avoided the trend toward self-service registers.THD3 (talk) 21:01, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- When I can find the time, I will be incorporating information from these two sources into the article:
http://www.sbnonline.com/Local/Article/5773/82/0/Two_brothers.aspx?Category=118 http://www.clevelandsupermarkets.com/cleveland-oh_heinens-fine-foods/208114347/
My plan is to create a new section which touches on the demographics of Heinen's customers and the emphasis on service over price. I'm open to any suggestions.THD3 (talk) 18:47, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Revert two December 2012 edits
I am reverting two edits by Jaxelrod because, in my opinion, they were not appropriate.
- I was the one who edited/introduced the material in question. I do not have any connection with Heinen's other than as a customer and my choice of language was motivated by nothing more than a desire to provide well(?)-written material to a WP article to which I felt I could make an adequate contribution. There is, thus, no question of "self-promotion" here.
- The information conveyed was gleaned from the source(s) cited in, I believe, an appropriate manner.
- I do not understand the editor's objection to citing the opening date of the Barrington store in terms certain given that the source states that date nor do I understand the editor's objection to mentioning the name of the shopping center in which the new store is located. I do not see the material in question as being "self-promotion talk."
- I do not understand the editor's objection to adding the information that Barrington, Illinois, is a suburb of Chicago. I would think that doing so helps the reader "place" the site of the new store in the reader's mind (however vaguely) without having to consult other sources.
- I do not understand the editor's objection to mentioning, in the body of the article, a major milestone in the company's history - expanding the reach of its market beyond the borders of Ohio. I would guess that when a reader sees mention of an Illinois store in the list of locations, she/he is supposed to (!BANG!) magically infer that a northeast Ohio company (as stated in the introductory paragraph) must, naturally, have a store located in Illinois. If not, it might be nice to provide some context. I do not see how the provision of this contextual material is to be interpreted as "self-promotion."
Now, if the editor has an objection to the form or content of the material sought to be deleted, he/she is most welcome to edit the content to suit his/her view of an appropriate edit. I've been around the block a few times on WP and I know full well I don't "own" these or any edits or articles. NorthCoastReader (talk) 02:08, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
