I'm wondering if this article should be titled "Bernard Gauthier" instead of "Henri Bernard Gauthier", since he did not go by Henri. Any thoughts? CanadianJudoka (talk) 05:04, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My father used his middle initial E. for Edmond (his godfather) as in Bernard E. Gauthier. His full name was Joseph Henri Bernard Edmond Gauthier. At the time Joseph was added to most catholic male names, Henri was his father. He was also an artist and often signed his paintings B.E.Gauthier, Bernard E. Gauthier, or B.E.G. For his work (Penitentiary service, security & investigations, etc) he also sometimes used his initials as a pseudonym as in J.H.BEG (Joseph H. Beg)... :) Personally, I would prefer to see Bernard E. Gauthier as the page name. I created pages in the past for him using Judo, Judoka and Sensei complete with pictures because that represented his passion in life, but for some reason they were removed. I also wished to add the fact that he opened the first known Judo club in Canada for blind persons. I had a copy of a news article on the subject where a blind student was interviewed but it is missing, however a Google search turned up another article on the subject in the Ottawa Citizen on january 11th 1952. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=3ukwAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Dt8FAAAAIBAJ&dq=blind%20judo%20canada&pg=1900%2C1956575 I apologise if I'm not following protocol since I'm not very familiar with Wiki Talk. Thank you! Michel Mibgau (talk) 20:55, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Michel. It's good to have your input. Wikipedia has specific naming conventions, and just adding "Judo", "Judoka" or "Sensei" at the end of his name does not meet them. If there were more than one article titled "Henri Bernard Gauthier", however, this one would be differentiated as "Henri Bernard Gauthier (judoka)". It's interesting that you say he went by Edmond in his daily life, because every reference I've seen to him in print (regarding Judo, anyway) refers to him as Bernard. The reason that your photographs were removed is that you did not follow Wikipedia's procedure for establishing copyright and licensing images for redistribution. However, I have recently begun collecting photographs related to Judo in Canada for use on Wikipedia, and I will be more than happy to help you make your photographs available here. I will send you an email within the next couple of days with instructions on how to do this, including the license that you will have to agree to. Hello CanadianJudoka, Are you still around? I'm semi-retired now, left the FD and politics which should give me more time. However now my mom has cancer and I'm realizing that time is not really something you can get more of...
I would like to add info to my dad's page but not sure how. I would also like to do a french version... I have added a few media files to wiki media but would like to put all my archives there for posterity, no sense in keeping them hidden in a file cabinet... My good friend Judo Ron is deceased and I don't really have many options... You can email or call me... https://sites.google.com/site/soudagemobilemichelwelding/contact-us Mibgau (talk) 04:26, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
