Action Française

[edit]

I described this movement as "extreme right-wing", and I stick to that categorisation, which I believe would be shared by a consensus of commentators. My fellow editor JASpencer altered this to "monarchist". This is a correct description, but, with respect, I can't help thinking that it is rather euphemistic. Monarchism in the English-speaking world is a mainstream, unremarkable movement. Monarchism in the French context, however, is a fringe movement bound up with radical right-wing political ideas (opposition to the Republic, the French Constitution, secularism, capitalism, the Jewish community, etc, etc). Calling AF simply a "monarchist" organisation fails to capture this important point. It is too gentle a word.Shoneen (talk) 12:40, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not about condemning but accurately describing. JASpencer (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I believe that "monarchist" is an inaccurate term in this context, and "extreme right-wing" is a more accurate term. I also believe that this is consistent with the views of expert opinion on the subject, and I can back this up without difficulty. Without wishing in any way to get personal, I have a suspicion that JASpencer (whom I have respect for, as I do for any other editor who gives up their time for Wikipedia) is an American user - I suspect that a European who knows the European political scene would not be arguing this point, because it is a fairly obvious one from a European perspective.Shoneen (talk) 18:40, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an American. I just prefer an accurate and neutral wikipedia. 22:33, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
