Merge discussion
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Suggest to merge PCCW-HKT Telephone (including redirect Hong Kong Telephone Company) to Hong Kong Telecom. By legal person, the companies (group) were under different legal person; the brand HKT was once defunct when it acquired by PCCW. However, after the revival of the brand HKT as well as spin off as a separate listed company, and the new company claimed as the successor of the old HKT, seem it is redundant to keep two article for the same company that under the same name most of the time. - Support. Adequate evidence, sources and reasons for this merge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wefk423 (talk • contribs) 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Name
[edit]Seem the company do business under many legal person in the course of its history. According to Hong Kong Companies Registry, Hong Kong Telecommunications Limited was incorporated in 1987 and renamed to Cable & Wireless HKT Limited in 1999, and then PCCW-HKT Limited since 2000. However, the licensee of the fixed line in 2005, according to OFCA[1] was PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited. It would be a nightmare to point out the different between HKT and PCCW during the merged period, as well as dig out every exact name of the subsidiaries and group structure, but may be more easier to find out information for the period that both HKT and PCCW are listed companies. Potential split
[edit]HKT was known as Cable & Wireless HKT from 1999 to 2000, which the group was a merger of HKT and "Cable and Wireless (Hong Kong)" circa 1987 (according to the uncite content of wikipedia); the legal person of Cable and Wireless (Hong Kong) was still live and using the current name Reach Network Hong Kong Limited, which still pending my research of current ownership and business area.
However, since after the merger HKT was the surviving brand for a decade (until a brief dual brands Cable & Wireless HKT in 1999 and 2000), as well as telegraph service my not provided by HKT but Cable & Wireless before the merger, it looks more tidy to create another article for Cable and Wireless (Hong Kong), as one of the predecessor of the group, instead of blending the history of the two predecessors of the current HKT into one article, especially the current HKT seldom identified itself as a successor of Cable and Wireless (Hong Kong), but HKTC only. - Reach Networks Hong Kong may related to Reach Limited. Matthew_hk tc 07:30, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- add the weigh of telegraph content as "Eastern Extension Australasia and China Telegraph" Matthew_hk tc 15:24, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
