Portrayals in Media

[edit]

I am almost certain this song was sung in the 1970s documentary movie Grey Gardens. The documentary focused on a mother/daughter duo who were 1940s socialites but had currently become reclusive. They lived in a delusional world of yesterday surrounded by the decaying squalor of their of their once spectacular mansion in the Hamptons. A real life and possibly sadder version of a Miss Habersham type characters. Both women sing the song, and both freely interchange the words “girl” for “boy” and vice versa. The movie was released in 1975 by famous documentary makers Albert & David Maysles. Not to violate any copyright, I recall an effort to include most of the show-tunes the women sang to themselves being included in the ending credits. Hopefully that will provide the necessary documentation.

I lack the necessary skills to edit and properly document changes to actual articles, but I am hopeful somebody with those skills can use this information to create a proper edit.
