Colloquial?

[edit]
interlocutor noun (formal) 1 a person taking part in a conversation with you 2 a person or an organization that talks to another person or organization on behalf of sb else —Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary

Is there a single source saying that "In colloquial use, an interlocutor ... is simply someone taking part in a conversation" (emphasis mine)[1]? To me, formal and colloquial seem very different. —Goh wz 12:42, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

linguistics

[edit]

in sociolinguistics, we talk about an interlocutor as a partipant in a conversation. God knows whether the word is used at all colloquially!
