Name
Not the poster who copied from the webpage, but the singer spells his last name "Somerville", with one "m", so if the page *is* restored or stubbed or whatever, please fix the name. -Heath (not registered)
Welcome Heath - thanks for the note. BTW, there is a move page feature but it is only available to logged-in users. --mav
Copyvio
How does the copyright issue affect subsequent changes to the text? (I'm just curious. Is there a helpfile that covers issues like this?) Hephaestos
- Unless the changes were a rewrite the oringal copyright still is in effect. The document is simply modified. I'm not aware of such a help file. --mav
- This article is currently a copy (identical as far as I can tell) of http://www.solarmanagement.co.uk/biog.html . Do we have permission to use that material? If so, we have to change the "38-year-old" bit! -- Tarquin 23:32 Mar 18, 2003 (UTC)
Update
Just to clarify. This article has been rewritten and is no longer a copyright violation Mintguy 15:41, 9 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Discography rather than charts
This article is very focused on charts and single hits. I think a discography would be far more relevant than a general link to charts. Also, the albums should be featured more in the article. I am propably not the right person to do this. --Sangild 16:34, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
Communards
The Communards link goes to the wrong article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aj uk (talk • contribs)

I have a question
My apologies if I'm using this all wrong but I have a question. REading the article it states that Small Town Boy is about Jimmy leaving his small town for the city. However at eh beginning it says that he was born and raised in Glasgow. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland??? I have heard rumours in my local town (Greenock) that Jimm in fact was borna nd raised there and SmallTown Boy is about him leaving Greenock and moving to Glasgow. Could someone clarify? Plus is this the place to post such a question? If not I'm sorry! - per Talk page history, the above was added at 21:40, 8 August 2007 by 222.225.223.132
To answer the question: The lyrics aren't biographical. He's taking on someone else's persona, kind of like acting. (:O)
And sure, this page is for the discussion of anything on-topic. Fenwayguy (talk) 04:13, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Activism work
Shouldn't there be some coverage of his activism around GLBT issues and hiv/aids issues? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.217.65.21 (talk) 09:22, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. It's kind of weird that there is no mention of his activism work in this article. Obviously it shouldn't be the main focus, but I would have thought it warranted a sentence or two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.148.181.166 (talk) 05:44, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Jimmy Somerville
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jimmy Somerville's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
Reference named "British Hit Singles & Albums":
- From Fine Young Cannibals: Roberts, David (2006). British Hit Singles & Albums (19th ed.). London: Guinness World Records Limited. p. 200. ISBN 1-904994-10-5.
- From Bronski Beat: Roberts, David (2006). British Hit Singles & Albums (19th ed.). London: Guinness World Records Limited. p. 79. ISBN 1-904994-10-5.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 18:04, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Rent Boy==
Why no mention of the fact he was a Glasgow rent boy in his early life? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.241.222.56 (talk) 18:37, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
1984/85 arrest
Does anybody have any sources with the details of Jimmy Somerville's arrest for "indecency" from 1984/85? I can find sources that confirm he was arrested for indecency and fined £50 at Bow Street Magistrates Court in February 1985, but not much else. I've read that he was arrested in Hyde Park by a police officer who wanted an autograph for his daughter or something, but the details are always quite vague. He was still in Bronski Beat when it happened and they had to cancel a US tour as Madonna's support act because of it (he couldn't get a temporary work visa to enter the country). It's a highly relevant detail to put into the article as it highlights the persecution Somerville and other gay people had to endure from the British police and government at that time, and even Somerville himself has spoken publicly about it. 88.104.10.150 (talk) 17:40, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
