Talukas\tahsils\tehsils
[edit]- The article currents list 7 talukas and four sub-talukas:
- Bilara, Jodhpur, Luni, Osian, Phalodi, Piparcity and Shergarh (subs: Balesar, Bap, Jhanwar and Tinwari)
- India Study Channel lists 9:
- Balesar, Bap, Bhopalgarh, Bilara, Luni, Mandor, Osian, Phalodi, and Shergarh. Leaves out Jodhpur and Piparcity, promotes Balesar and Bap, with not-mentioned-in-article Bhopalgarh and Mandor.
- The 2001 Census Population Finder has 7:
- Bhopalgarh, Bilara, Jodhpur, Luni, Osian, Phalodi, and Shergarh. It substitutes Bhopalgarh for Piparcity.
- The National Panchayat Directory 2011 lists 10 blocks:
- Balesar, Bap, Bawadi, Bhopalgarh, Bilara, Luni, Mandor, Osian, Phalodi, and Shergarh. It leaves out Jodhpur and Piparcity.
- SSA Planning Reprt 2011 page 10, for 2001 population lists 10:
- Balesar, Bap, Bhopalgarh, Bilara, Jodhpur, Luni, Mandor, Osian, Phalodi, and Shergarh. Does not list Piparcity and does not included Bawadi.
- But SSA Planning Reprt 2011 on pages 13 & 18, lists 11 blocks:
- Balesar, Bap, Bawadi, Bhopalgarh, Bilara, Jodhpur, Luni, Mandor, Osian, Phalodi, and Shergarh. It leaves out Piparcity.
To me it looks as though Bhopalgarh Taluka is the proper name for one of the two talukas in Piparcity subdivision (the other being Bilara), and that "Piparcity" was never a taluka name. It looks as though Shergarh split into Shergarh and Balesar; while Phalodi spilt into Phalodi and Bap; and Jodhpur split into Jodhpur and Mandor. Bawadi seems to be the result of a split of Bhopalgarh into Bawadi and Bhopalgarh. Several places in the current Bawadi Block were listed under Bhopalgarh in the 2001 census and before that were in the old Lavera Baori Taluk. --Bejnar (talk) 03:38, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- In fact the panchayat samities part of the official map: Jodhpur District, Administrative setup shows the first three of those splits, it does not show the Bhopalgarh/Bawadi split. Panchayat samiti are the taluka level administrative councils. It raises the interesting question, "When is a taluka not a taluka?" That same map shows that Bhopalgarh is the name of the taluka and not Piparcity. --Bejnar (talk) 17:14, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
I've rewritten the section with citations, including the old five subdivision- seven taluka for historical interest. The new Administrative setup file at the official district web site was somewhat helpful, but obviously was done in a hurry, and not proof-read. For example, while the text was updated, the table was not updated from the 2011 version. The Administrative setup file name was changed from ".htm" to ".html". --Bejnar (talk) 20:56, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Taluk HQs
[edit]The village of Baori may be the HQ for Bawadi Taluk and the village of Mandor (Dara Ka Bas) may be the HQ for Mandor Taluk, but we need a reliable source. I have placed question marks in the table for their headquarter villages. Pipar City may be the headquarters for Mandor Taluk, that is one way to interpret the District's Administraitive Setup page which calls the tehsil "Pipar City", but calls the panchayat samiti "Mandor". Almost all other sources call the taluka/tehsil Mandor. --Bejnar (talk) 23:45, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Area
[edit]The official website itself seems unclear about the exact area. At Jodhpur District at a glance-2012: Geography it says "having geographical area of 22850 sq. Kms". At Administrative Setup its says "2256405 hectares", which is 22564.05 sq.km. It repeats "2256405 Hectares" at [Basic Statistics. The Central Ground Water Board cites the 22850 sq.km. figure in its District Profile. --Bejnar (talk) 04:23, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
