Judicial Independence Claim - no citation

[edit]

Through lack of confidence, I have added a 'needs citation' tag to this claim, although Wikipedia rules suggest that I should actually remove it completely: "He incurred the wrath of the dictator Idi Amin because of his judicial independence[citation needed] and was locked up for 90 days, three weeks after his marriage." The 'needs citation' template says: "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons should be removed immediately.". This is definitely unsourced, and Sentamu is definitely living. I have looked at the nearest citation (at the end of the paragraph), and the document makes no mention at all of this alleged exhibition of judicial independence. Should the claim in fact be removed? Tsuchan (talk) 09:49, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. He was only 24 at the time! Ironman1104 (talk) 08:04, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Opposes Gay Marriage - Unlikely Candidate for Cantebury?

[edit]

Due to the resignation of the Archbishop of Cantebury today, you may need to add a new section to include the press coverage if he is appointed to the role.

Agrees with Stonewall About Mugabe?

[edit]

Given that Peter Tatchell has been one of the few people to avoid being murdered when attempting to effect a citizen's arrest on Mugabe, Sentamu does appear to have at least something in common with some homosexuals - would you add a link to their debate on Gay Marriages ?212.139.105.232 (talk) 19:19, 16 March 2012 (UTC)twl212.139.105.232 (talk) 19:19, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

First ethnic minority archbishop?

[edit]

No. Theodore of Tarsus was a Greek and spoke no English when he was appointed to the See of Canterbury.

And Rowan Williams is a Welshman. Angr (talk) 14:51, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He must be a self-loathing African, since he opposes "multiculturalism." How does he suppose an African would have become a bishop in the Church of England if it were not for multiculturalism? His vile comment on cohabitation, in which he characterizes Kate Middleton as a cow, as well as being inconsistent with traditional Christian moral values, is certainly is a product of his tribal upbringing in Uganda, where wives, cows, pigs, etc., are property to be acquired by men.John Paul Parks (talk) 15:38, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gay issues?

[edit]

Given that gay issues seem on the verge of splitting the church, is there a reason that there's no mention of him saying that 'homosexual practice' is incompatible with scripture or his opposition to gay marriage? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.93.226.146 (talk) 01:54, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all. You or someone else could add to the article his stance on this and other controversial issues.85.243.69.189 (talk) 02:31, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest addition of something akin to the following to the end of the 'Homosexuality' section:

'These remarks triggered protests on the steps of York Minster.[1]'

I have added British to nationality.

[edit]

I think it is ridicules that was not included! He’s the Archbishop of York, fled to the UK and became a citizen.! But maybe, as this is the Church of England it should be English? --Τασουλα (Shalom!) (talk) 22:49, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Safeguarding & CDM controversy

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikpedians, I have added new section to Sentamu biog. Please check my citations for accuracy. Also added an image - but I'm new to wiki, and might have done the image link incorrectly. If so, please be patient and let me know what I need to do. Hope I've done the references ok. The picture is from Oxford newspaper but I've tagged it as 'fair use'. Is that correct? Should the image be titled in some way? Joelionheart (talk) 15:32, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The queens passing

I have really missed your voice regarding the passing of the queen. I hope you are well 62.254.10.136 (talk) 09:24, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Peerage

[edit]

I feel like we should not mention his peerage in the infobox. The archbishops of York and Canterbury are senior to peers. The practice for the archbishops of Canterbury is to omit the peerage, and the article on John Sentamu should reflect that importance. Векочел (talk) 03:16, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
