Who's Who

[edit]

I disagree with not adding intermediate Who's Who refs. Recently I have read articles clearly generated by a Newspaper obit for which no additional corroboration has been sought. Often the editor has little knowledge of career progresion within organisations such as the British Army, legal system or established church. I seek to add verification from sources I have or know are reliable ie Times On Line. Often Newspaper obits are not as accurate as one would wish. Bashereyre (talk) 19:57, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand Who's Who is based almost entirely on returns by the subject, and I have previously seen doubts cast on its reliability as a source. That was the main reason I removed it. When I have time, I intend to dig out the London Gazette references for his senior ecclesiastical appointments (incidentally these are also the definitive source for commissions and prmootions in the armed services, and taking silk and appointment to judicial office). The obits here are from The Guardian and The Telegraph and (pace the Guardian's past reputation for spelling errors), neither seems inherently less reliable than The Times.
