I've just been doing a hefty amount of cleanup, but it's by no means perfect. We need way more citations here, not just temple websites. The Bharani festival and Kavu Theendal ritual--especially the Vellichapad oracles--are worthy of note as they've appeared in books and television programs, so you'd think anthropologists would have written books about them already? I've only just managed to locate this festival and the oracles now after having seen some material about them many years ago. Youtube has many videos of the festival, but of course, those aren't accepted sources for the ritual practices (however, they were the only thing I could use when clarifying the explanations about some of the festival rituals).

Also, there are conflicting statements in the article itself in regards to animal sacrifice. Is the sacrifice of cocks something that only takes part during the Bharani festival, when during other times, blood sacrifices are forbidden? That's the impression I got. But clarifications, especially from someone who's been there (and who's willing to edit this stuff encyclopedically) would be good. --Snowgrouse (talk) 12:16, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I’m honestly curious: YouTube videos show you what happens. People can see the YouTube video and derive an understanding. How is someone’s interpretation going to be encyclopedic in comparison? That adds another layer of indirection which distracts from the truth. Anishlr (talk) 12:04, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
