Rationale of entries

[edit]

I am interested in the rationale of some entries. Herring is omitted as GOC NGF? The 14th Bde is included even though it was not deployed (although 3rd Bn was detached and deployed and is entered twice). Conversely, the 49th Bn was part of 30th Bde but was not deployed and it might be reasonable to include it but note that it was not deployed? 03:48, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Herring was GOC I Corps; Blamey was GOC New Guinea Force at that time. Herring commanded New Guinea Force from 23 May 1943 to 26 August 1943. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:23, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm Looks like you're correct. Reinstated Herring. Re the inclusion: I am inclined to include every unit that was part of New Guinea Force, as my interest is with the base troops. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:23, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then perhaps there needs to be a statement to this effect and a distinction as to which actually served along the track? Cinderella157 (talk) 01:38, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a plan. Hawkeye7 (talk) 04:52, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No issue with any revisions but just to clarify the only rationale I had for what I included he originally was what was included in the source I had available to me at the time. Anotherclown (talk) 09:31, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Been thinking on this. Just trying to work out the rationale for including or not including units. Every unit that was part of NGF would have to include Kanga and Milne forces? Even every unit at PM and forward along the track would have to cast a much wider net. Initially, Allen was tasked with the defence of PM but this then narrowed to the Maroubra AO. Not certain if this included patrols by 2/6th Ind Coy, Jawforce, Honer Force or 49th Bn conducted to flanks? Regardless, This might provide a useful delineation? It might be useful to report who commanded Maroubra as a timeline since Maroubra was the pointy end at any time so: Owen, Watson, Cameron, Honer, Porter, Potts, Porter, Eather, Allen and Vasey. I understand the intention but not the practicality. Cinderella157 (talk) 10:14, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please check dates

[edit]

Hawkeye7, would you mind checking the dates you added with this edit :) Regards, Cinderella157 (talk) 07:20, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done (Checks) They are correct. Nominally Allen remained in command of the 7th Division until 14 Match 1943. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 08:01, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
