Just started this page. I wonder if the synopsis is too long? I started adding more about the 'themes', but this was about to become seriously OR, so thought I should stop for now. Ajcounter 19:31, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- needs a bit on the referening and notability side, can I also suggest a "spoiler free" ==Plot introduction==, and then a ==Literary significance & criticism== and maybe ==Sources, references, external links, quotations==

Character list
[edit]I'm currently entering entries from A Zola Dictionary, a book in the public domain found on Google Books and Internet Archive. It will take me a few days to enter them all (the OCR is bad so requires some hand editing). Once the entries are in I will go back and probably trim the length and add wikilinks. - Not sure such a volume of character information is wise for this article. You might like to edit these down off-line first or perhaps consider a separate "Characters article". It is certainly not the norm to import text verbatim even from public domain source. More usual to quote from or précis this form. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:58, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. I want to get them all on the record in total first, than I will go back and trim them down. It's difficult to know exactly what to trim without seeing how they cross reference each other. Re: quoting verbatum nothing wrong with that, we used to import entire Encyclopedia Britannica articles, so long as the source is given somewhere, lots of Wikipedia is actually just cut and pasted from PD sources, checked for accuracy of course and language and spelling updated. - When you say on record - doing these types of changes in public might not be the best policy - try a sandbox, subpage or even the talk page to work up a decent edit of your change then put it in. Sounds like an interesting novel anyhow. You might like to consider a separate characters article if the novel and the characters in have sufficient notability. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:10, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Here is the complete list of all 100 characters with descriptions, as extracted from the public domain book A Zola Dictionary. I trimmed down the description lengths (except for a handful of the most important characters) and removed 75 of 100 to keep it focused. This is a sprawling crowded novel that covers the fortunes of multiple families, I found it difficult to get below 25 key people.Fothergill Volkensniff IV (talk) 05:54, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
